open letter in regards to tiers/rankings/gossip...

Think about what you consider "lower tier" versus "top tier".
Is "lower tier" a less wealthy group?
Is "lower tier" a less conventionally beautiful group?
Is "lower tier" a house that is newer/smaller/doesn't have a physical house?
What are "tiers" but campus gossip and baseless assumptions?
If you don't want to belong to a house where the brothers/sisters care about each other, fine. If you'd rather let someone else tell you what's "good", please don't come to my organization.
Last I checked, none of our organizations were founded on the principles of being hot, rich, partying hard, or being chill. Nor would they condone the vicious remarks I see on this site.
No fraternity or sorority is "lower tier" to its true members. What you may value as "top tier" traits (appearance, partying, social standing) speaks volumes about you as a person.
Pay attention to the principles your houses were founded on and making your own house and greek experience awesome during your time here. Stop putting so much energy into defaming others. It reinforces the negative stereotypes of greek life and actually deters people from rushing. In hurting others, you are hurting yourselves.
You didn't join organized drinking teams, you joined organizations based on friendship, academics, philanthropy, high ideals. Your actions represent not only your URI chapters but members around the world. Think before you post, and put your energies into something your founders would be proud of.

I never said there was anything wrong with it, you're just in a lower tier. Why do lower tiers find the need to hate on the top sororities and fraternities? Stop complaint about them and worry about your own sorority/fraternity then maybe you will become a popular house.

Quite the opposite. I think the more popular/"top tier" houses do a lot more hating on the "lower" houses. Just read some of the reviews on this site. My point is, perpetuating tiers based on superficial garbage instead of joining a house based on true compatibility and values isn't what greek life is supposed to be about. And assuming because I value things outside of appearance and partying makes me "low tier" and a "complainer" just continues to prove my point. I am not on why you'd consider a "low tier" house, thanks.

The tier system is just an elaborate form of bullying. The top tiers need someone to compare themselves to, so they can feel good about themselves. No one is "popular" unless someone else is "unpopular," so in order to be "popular" they have to put down other girls. It's pathetic and immature.

Thank you for the last few comments. It's good to hear other Greeks who are disappointed by this situation. "Uh", I am expressing an opinion about how I think many members of the system behave in a negative way. I'm not slamming "top tier" houses-there are individuals in any house who spend their energy tearing down others and perpetuating this shallow ranking system. Your immediate response to my opinion was that I must be "low tier". Why? Because I expect more from people? Because I value fraternity over what other people think? Frankly, I completely disagree with the popular sentiment of who is top and bottom tier, anyways. And I'm certain there are nasty comments on this site written by people you would consider "low tier" members. I don't expect rainbows and puppies and everyone holding hands--there's always going to be a sense of competition between houses. And btw I love the social aspects of being greek, and I have been to my share of events/parties/etc. be young, have fun, make a few bad decisions. It's a part of the greek experience, but not the point.
The person who referred to bullying had it right. You don't think calling a person/s a loser or a pig on an anonymous website is bullying? Aren't we too old for this, and don't our organizations, our friends, and our families expect more from us?

I love how people in popular houses think members of less popular house were j st dying to be in their houses, and the "lower house" were a second choice after they were rejected. News flash: not everyone wats to be your friend. Most people in less popular house actually chose to be there, for reasons more important than a name or what Is widely considered popular By everyone else.

Look at the one who made this post. You were the one talking negative on top tier houses. Majority of the people in greek life join just as much for the parties and social aspect as they do for the sisterhood/brotherhood. A good number of people in lower tier houses are people who couldn't get into top tier houses.
