Why do people even bother to rank sororities/ fraternities. It seems like people are just stuck on old stereotypes and unwilling to allow any changes when bottom houses improve or top houses have lesser pledge classes.

Quality over quantity. That's why top houses have smaller pledge classes when bottom houses have to have huge pledge classes
