wrestlers in frats?

by: Hey

Are any of Iowa's wrestlers in a frat? Also is it possible to balance all the demands of wrestling (practice, lifting, cutting weight, competition) with school and pledging a fraternity? I plan on walking on to the wrestling team next year and am hoping I can make it work with joining a fraternity also.

I dont think you can be on a school sport and be in a fraternity, Some coaches I've heard of (basketball, football) will not allow it. I dont know about wrestling but I am going to say its similar.

Thanks for the info... do you know if the no fraternity rule applies to walk ons too? I guess I'm not very hopeful that I'll be able to do both now. I can definitely see Coach Brands being a hardass about it.

I think the OP was asking if anyone from our NCAA Division 1 wrestling team was in a house. Big difference between a rando ex-hs wrestler and a Hawkeye wrestler.

And to answer the OP's question, I don't think there's are. It would be really really hard to pledge a house and play a varsity sport at the same time. And unfortunately the season runs thru both semesters so it's not like you can rush in the spring.

It might be hard pledging and doing wrestling but there aren't any fraternity rules that say you can't be on a team.

Skyler St. John is supposed to be initiated into Sigma Nu this spring... his brother Derek was unofficially in EN also. I hear Thomas Gilman hangs around at TKE but don't know if he's a member.

These statements made including the fraternity Sigma Nu are not true.

I can't imagine anyone from the wrestling team being in a house here. They are future Olympic wrestlers and MMA fighters. Frat life is probably way too soft for them.
