sorority life at iowa

by:

Pay for Friends or Not to Pay for Friends? That is the question. The answer is - if you want to have girlfriends outside of the ones that you pay for, don't be in a sorority at Iowa. But beware of the ones that you do pay for cause when you turn your back, watch out for that knife. Don't believe all that recruitment rah rah -- its false advertising. Good luck!

I find this really offensive because I have found genuine friends in my house, and I know for an absolute fact that I wouldn't have made it through my first year here at Iowa without them. They were such a positive support system for me, and I love them all. Actually, I feel so sorry for you, because you apparently didn't have a similar experience.. That sucks. But don't come on here and knock on a fantastic community that has changed a lot of lives for the better.

Any incoming freshman looking on this site for recruitment advice, please do not take this or other negative comments into consideration. Try recruitment for yourself even if you're not sure greek life is for you, because that's what I did and now I have friends that really will last me a lifetime, cheesy or not.

I have no idea what this person is so bitter about, but sororities at Iowa are a GREAT place to make friends. Yes, every chapter has dues, but you're paying to be part of a community and be connected to all the previous sorority women before you, and all the ones to come. You are paying for COUNTLESS opportunities that you will hear about such as internships and student leadership opportunities that many "GDI's" never get to hear about. It's not friendship you're paying for, that just happens to be an additional benefit. Of course not everyone in a house is going to get along. When is the last time someone put 140 women together and had perfect harmony? That's just unheard of, but if you join a sorority I can guarantee you will make friends that will last a lifetime. Sure, there's occasional drama, but doesn't that happen outside the greek community too? We're all only human.

Dear wow..
Sounds like you are reading off the recruitment script. Don't you ever get to have your own thoughts? Nah....

Ha that's funny. I've actually never been through on the recruiting side of recruitment, so I don't know the script yet! Glad to know it'll be easy for me to learn though.
