unfortunately ranks do matter!

by: Truth

On this campus, ranks TOTALLY determine how your social life goes for most of college. Top frats ONLY party with top sororities. Middle frats with middle sororities. And bottom tier sororities with bottom frats. Other Greeks and even some GDIs will treat you totally differently because of what house you’re in. It happens all the time, in bars, at parties, even in class. During Homecoming and Greekweek, top houses will be paired with bottom houses and they will refuse to fully participate and will do everything to remind their pairing that they are inferior. People will refuse to date or even associate with anybody below whatever tier their house is in. It’s a shame this campus is so superficial but that’s the way UI clearly rolls.

Your chapter's "rank" really only determines who you have socials with most often. Outside of that it's not important. Even if you're in a "bottom" house you'll still have friends in all different frats and sororities. The chapter you join is pretty much just a reflection of who you were senior year in high school, and by the time you're done with college everyone has changed. Go where you feel the most comfortable because you won't stay in a chapter that you joined only because it was a top house.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but top tier frats and sororities CHOOSE NOT do anything with the bottom houses and that’s perfectly fine. People relate to others in their own tiers so much better anyways

I’m not in APhi, but in another good house. Likewise, all my friends are in top or upper mid sororities too. I just don’t relate well to the girls in lower houses because they’re awkward, boring, uncomfortable to be around, have wierd interests and I wouldn’t feel comfortable bringing them around the fraternities my friend group hangs out with
