rushing as a junior?
by: PNMWhat is the truth about rushing as a junior? Do I even have a shot? I mean I'll be here for a 5th year. I don't want to try if it's pointless

I rushed as a junior. It is much harder (especially if you don't have connections). I took heavy cuts after the first round, which in a way was nice because I didn't have to worry about growing attached to a lot of chapters and then get cut/have to choose. However, if you care about tiers, which at 20/21 you should be more mature than that, then don't rush as a junior unless you have connections.
Overall, I'm glad I waited. Had I rushed as a freshman, I would've taken heavy cuts for grades, but I had time to raise my GPA. I don't think my freshman self would've been able to handle the cuts because I would've thought something was wrong with me or whatever. I wasn't as nervous as the freshmen and most sophomores seemed. I felt confident in who I am and thus what I want in a chapter. I absolutely adore all of my sisters!

I did rush this past semester and I think you should do informal if you can. Informal is much better than formal and less intense. I think you should try because you never know what can happen. I am happy where I am and I love my sisters. I think that it is harder for juniors, because the sororities already have their classes picked out. They are looking for mostly freshmen because of finding a new class. There is still a chance though and I think you should go for something that you want. If you do not make it or do not like it, that is fine because you are not the only one it happened to.

It's probably easier to rush fraternities as a junior. They seem to care about year a lot less than sororities do. I dated a guy who joined a top fraternity as a junior. If I remember correctly, he said it wasn't THAT uncommon compared to a top tier sorority taking a junior (maybe one/pledge class, if at all).
