tiers and how they change over time

Ok so I have been at OSU for 4 years now, and the Greek Community as a whole has changed SO much.
Basically the idea is that I feel many of the current houses are either stuck with their old reputations or are riding on their old reputations to keep them on top. What people don't realize is many of these reputations are from 4-5 years ago and things change SO much in that time, and even in less time. Think about it, in 2 academic years, there are 2 new PCs for sororities, and 4 for Fraternities. A chapter basically replaces half of its members every 2 years, and all of them every 4 years. Now there is obviously a type each house tends to have, but that can change so much over a short period of time. For example, 4-5 years ago, the top Sorority houses were KKG, DG, Pi Phi, and Theta. Now, that list is very different. KKG is gone, and Theta has lost its right to be considered top in my opinion. Those two houses were replaced by Alpha Phi and KD. APhi basically got the best pledge class 2 years in a row, and replaced Theta because those girls are so boring now and not that attractive. Alpha Phi is probably the second best house on campus, if not the best, and they are constantly ranked in the middle for a simple reason that their bast rep wasn't top and other old top houses want to keep them down. For fraternities, top used to be Sammy, Phi Psi, TKE, and Sig Chi. Now I would say it is more like Phi Psi, Sig Chi, TKE, Kappa Sig, Delt.

you make good points and are entitled to your opinion, but I don't entirely agree. I've been at OSU for 3 years and have cousins who went through the greek system several years ago. Bottom line is, each house does attract a certain type and every girl entering sorority life is going in for her own reason - some want the party life, some want the notoriety of being in a "top tier" house, some want the sisterhood and some really do support the philanthropy. As far as "top tier", who you block with doesn't make you the best house unless that's your individual priority. As for KD replacing Theta or KKG - that's just not accurate. Even several years ago, it was the girls who couldn't make "top tier" who went to KD - not to be mean, but the "wanna be's". Pi Phi hasn't drawn quite the girls they have in the past to be honest and Alpha Phi is desperately trying to maintain status as "top tier" which is a shame because it is a good group of girls. I would have to disagree regarding your opinion of Theta - again, it's what someone's priority is in joining a sorority - Theta still pulls the highest GPA and, for the most part, the girls don't have the stereotypical overdone party girl look - again, just my observation. Additionally, with a younger sister in high school, priorities are changing - girls with more substance are valued more than in the past and I think as they consider sorority life that's influencing choices - I think that's the reason we saw some shifts recently.
