advice to guys rushing

by: Senior

Be honest with yourself while rushing. As a freshman I rushed one place hard and didn't get a bid, and because of that did not join anywhere else that semester. I love where I ended up, but it sucked not joining when I wanted to. If you are not meshing well with your first choice, or have not received a bid by the end of the first week, it will be wise to look elsewhere to protect yourself. Make sure you go to the events of your backup options. Fraternities with a large amount of kids rushing will be competitive, so be aware of your chances.

Yes I would say if you aren't close with the rush chair or havent recieved a bid within the first 3-4 events, look elsewhere.

"Look elsewhere" after 3-4 events? Isn't it kind of late at that point.

What does this mean how does it work with the frats? No 'bid day' like sororities I guess?

bids are given out every day of rush week for the top houses, some before rush even starts, some on the first day, and so on. usually the last 1 or two events are invite only, and if you're not going to those, you're not getting a bid. even some places do invite only on the third of 5 or 6 days, if you're not there, maybe move on
