will sororities care if i rushed at my old school?

by:

I'm a transfer student and I rushed fall semester at my old school, accepted a bid, but then I changed my major and decided to transfer to OSU for spring semester so I dropped out of the sorority before initiation. Since I knew I was transferring I didn't want to be initiated into a chapter i wouldn't even be in. I'm thinking of rushing at OSU, will they care I rushed at my old school? Or will I get dropped by houses because of it?

If you're thinking of rushing this January you won't be allowed. You need to wait a calendar year if you accept a bid. Just curious though, what sorority? OSU has a ton of chapters and the other sororities that are common in the area OSU had for the most part except for like adpi

The calendar year rule doesn't apply when you transfer, I already checked with pha.

I'm not going to say what chapter, but I'm just a believer that you join a house for the girls in it, so just because I fit in with the girls at my old school doesn't mean I'd fit in well with that chapter at OSU. So I didn't think transferring to a different chapter would be a good idea.

yes, this is a common misconception. By transferring, they one year rule is voided:
"Per the Green Book, The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (pg. MR-52) States:

4. Once I sign this Agreement, I am bound by the National Panhellenic Conference calendar year rule. This rule states that if I receive an invitation to membership from any group I have listed and I choose not to accept it, I am ineligible to be pledged to any other inter/national fraternity on this campus for one calendar year.

Page UA-3 under III. The Panhellenic Compact
6. A woman who has had her pledge broken by an NPC Fraternity, or who has broken her pledge to an NPC fraternity, may not be asked to join another NPC fraternity on the campus for one calendar year from the date she was originally pledged. However, she may be repledged by the same NPC fraternity chapter at any time within that calendar year.

7. When a woman who has been pledged but not yet initiated transfers to another campus, her pledge is broken, and she is eligible to pledge an NPC fraternity on that campus at the earliest opportunity"

In my opinion I think you'll be fine if your old chapter isn't on this campus. If it is however it could look a little fishy, especially if your sorority here is considered lower tier and it was a "good" house where you came from

Why would that be fishy?

You could be perceived as a social climber. Yes you join an organization for its girls but you also join for its values and philanthropy among other things

Wait, do you mean if the house was not great at your old campus but a top house at OSU? I can see that.

Anyhow, it doesn't matter in my case they didn't have a chapter at OSU. So it shouldn't do me harm?

If it's not here you should be fine! At least in my opinion. I just wouldn't bring it up here during rush if you can avoid it but I would be surprised if it hurt you because it's not like you could have affiliated

Binding Agreement does not hold true if you transfer schools. If you read the Green Book carefully, it talks about "this campus", which applies only to the school where she previously attended.

I wouldn't bring up which one you affiliated at your other school. Girls that you're talking to will probably look it up to see how "good" it was at the other school.
