rushing as a sophomore-my experience

So about now is the time when sophomore PNM's come onto this site and ask how hard it is to get into a sorority at OSU as a sophomore. So I'll give my perspective.

I did not complete rush at OSU. I ended up transferring schools and dropped out of rush because of I knew I would have to leave. I had 5 houses left for sisterhood round, and a pretty good choice of houses. I was asked back to my first and second choices from the first round. It wasn't like my options were AOPI and nothing else so I dropped to avoid the humiliation. I've joined a sorority at my new school and am very happy with it.

So, rushing.

Yeah, it's going to be hard. It's not Alabama, but it will be hard. There were 5 sophomores in my rush group. Only one of them ended up joining a sorority.

For the best chances:
1. Get letters of recommendation.
2. Make sure your grades are awesome. Sororities will cut for grades and they will be harsher on a sophomore. A 3.4 isn't going to cut it. Try to be at a 3.6+.
3. Get involved.
4. And, I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but you'll need to be in top physical appearance/shape. There was only one girl in my rush group who ended up without a bid. She was morbidly obese. AOPi didn't even extend her a bid.
5. Be personable and fun. Don't try to fit yourself to a house.
6. Expect cuts. It will hurt when X sorority that you thought loved you cuts you. But don't be discouraged.
