rushing

by: Soph

So in the fall I rushed Kap Sig and did not get a bid, which is fine I'm sure it wasn't personal and I'm okay with that. They did tell me, however, that I'd be a "good fit" at TKE and should rush there in the spring semester. Looking at this page, I realize that TKE and Kap Sig don't like one another. So should I take this as a slap in the face or did they honestly mean it?

Also, since I'm a sophomore, am I better off rushing a "mid tier" fraternity like PIKE, Phi Delt, ATO and SAE? Are they usually easier to get a bid from? I'm not too concerned about ranks and titles, I just want to be apart of the Greek life here and am upset I didn't realize it earlier. Thanks.

Don't suicide again. the one thing I would not do is only rush TKE. If you want to check it out, go for it but you should also check out some of the other chapters you listed. They will be easier to get a bid from as they are generally less competitive.

hahaha this is too funny. And as a rule of thumb, TKE gives bids to basically anyone who isn't extremely weird. You'll be fine with them or delt, phi delt, etc.

2 things:

1. It doesn't seem like a slap in the face at all. The truth is that certain fraternities look for certain characteristics in their rushes/pledges. Also, certain fraternities have certain stereotypes and "personalities". Kappa squid and tke are both great fraternities - the fact that they pointed you to TKE (and not a lower fraternity like fiji or sig ep) shows that they genuinely thought you'd be a good fit at another good frat. (At least, this is how it works for girls).

2. Plenty of sophomores rush and pledge "top" fraternities. Don't feel out of place, you'll do fine.

I thought this would be my top choice while I was rushing until I got there. They gave me a bid after talking to me for no more than 10 minutes and it was almost insulting. Like yea I get you like me but you barely know me. Pike did the same and Phi psi was only three days. If you give bids that easily how selective can you actually be?
Needless to say, I joined somewhere else.

You gave me a bid at your first event of rush along with multiple other guys. Do you want to see the bid cards????

there is definitely some truth to this but its not against the rules or shady at all, they just give bids out earlier than others to try and get the best recruits

They only bid kids they went to high school with so you already know whether or not you're getting a bid before spring semester even begins.
