bottom tiers?

by: Okay?

So how bad is it if you make it into a bottom tier? Will frat guys not talk to you or will other girls who are Greek not want to hang out? After today I really like two of them but apparently they're at the bottom of the tiers....

Gamma phi and aopi. I didn't know the tier system here and they aren't my absolute top choices but the seemed really nice.

It's definitely not uncommon to see gamma phis at events with sig chi, kappa sig, phi psi, whatever. Don't rule out a sorority just because of the "boys" you may/may not meet. As girls, we have it easy. The good fraternities have plenty of open events where anyone can come, and it's a great place to meet guys. (Bars are also free for all)

if someone doesnt talk to you because of what "tier" you're in, then they are literally stuck in middle school and not worth your time anyway. If a guy in a top tier frat thinks you're hot, being in one of those chapters isnt going to stop him from trying to talk to you. Many girls in lower tier chapters have friends in top tier. Honestly, tiers "matter", i guess, but if you're nice and fun and meet people in class or at a bar they aren't going to be mean to you. Like being in a bottom tier doesnt make you a second class citizen lol

There's always the group of "hot girls" from the bottom tier sororities that the guys will hang out with. I will say that bottom tier sororities tend to be a lot less social which will affect the number of guys you meet and what frat they're from. It's not impossible to be social but it's more work. The other Greek girls will like you (or not like you) regardless of you're tier, they'll probably have less hate if anything because they feel less threatened.

I'm a guy in a "top tier" house, and I can say this:

We party with and hang out with everyone! Girls have it easy - all girls are cool and invited to everything, and my brothers have dated/are dating girls from all "tiers". I have friends in all sororities.

The same can't be said for guys though - if you're a "bottom-tier" guy, good luck hooking up with/dating/talking to a "top tier" girl.

Join where you feel comfortable, you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice to not do that! I know plenty of girls who felt uncomfortable at "top tier" houses and wanted to join elsewhere, and they're happy!

People act like gamma phi is the worst sorority and give them a ton of hate just because they're the newest sorority we have on campus. But if you give them a chance you could see that they're actually pretty cool (besides a few, but every sorority has that) and very obviously love their sorority. And honestly once you're in a chapter it doesn't really change who you hang out with. gamma phis go to kappa sig/tke events too, nobody really bases their choice of friends based on your chapter/if they do they're a shallow piece of s$@!t anyway.

The Gamma Phi I talked to was really sweet, and she said she was a member of the first group of them to come on campus. She was really proud of their sisterhood because they had to build it from scratch.

1. Join where you feel the strongest connection, you will definitely regret just joining a chapter for the tier they are in.

2. As a senior I have gotten to know girls in pretty much all the chapters. There are people in Aopi, Gamma Phi, AXO etc. that are in love with their sororities just as much as the girls I know in Pi Phi or Theta.

3. If you are in a lower tier sorority you likely will not have regular chapter-wide events with the top tier fraternities. However, this doesn't mean you can't go to their football blocks, open parties, date parties etc. If a guy thinks you're attractive and likes your personality he likely is not going to care what chapter you're in. Conversely if you are in a top tier chapter but a guy thinks you're annoying or not cute he's not going to be interested just because of your tier haha

If a frat guy is interested you he won't care what tier you are from. However, in a middle tier house you are going to have A LOT less chances to meet top tier guys.

For guys if you are in a lower tier house I would say its not quite the same. Girls are more superficial (at least in the top tier), and will judge you more based on what house you are from. They seem to care a lot more about status when guys care more about dat booty. That's not to say I haven't seen a lower tier guy date a top tier girl, it's just not nearly as common as the other way around.

As far as Gamma Phi goes, they definitely get a lot of hate on here - but that's because they're new. I really think people weren't expecting them to do well, so that's where a lot of criticism comes from. I also wouldn't say that Gamma Phi is at the bottom anymore, when I see them around campus (which is a lot, they wear their letters everyone) they look like pretty much middle tier girls. I'm not saying they are, but they've improved 100x since they got to campus. If you really like Gamma Phi, I'm sure they would be lucky to have you.

As far as AOPI goes...you'll definitely have a hard time socializing/meeting new people as a member. There's a reason they're the laughing stock of Greek life.

Yeah, unfortunately they do always struggle with recruitment. Reputation is huge in Greek Life, and AOPi just doesn't have a great one. The other "bottom tier" sororities definitely have a leg up on them, because AOPi is seen as a last resort sorority. Girls do drop out of recruitment because they don't want to be in AOPi, which is sad.

What is sad about AOPi is that they have really turned it around in like the last 5 years or so. One of their recent alums in a new anchor for the 5 oclock news and their most recent president who has gone alum works for their International Headquarters. AOPi has a reputation that was formed over 15 years ago... and people just wont drop it and open their eyes...

Oh absolutely- I don't doubt they've gotten better, but the campus perception of them isn't the best.

Gamma Phi is pretty legit and has a lot of stunners. They almost can't even be ranked because their recruitment process was slightly different; they couldn't really be selective what with it being their first year. Gamma Phi will, in my opinion, be mid tier or maybe even upper mid tier within four or five years

I really like them, they're all really passionate about their sorority and it shows. I also really like their philanthropy, I went to pancakes events, it was bigger than Delt Deep Fry even. I think it says a lot about a new chapter that they're already pretty integrated to OSU Greek Life. Hopefully ZTA will also do well.
