nationals

by:

I heard from friends at other schools that chi o and AGD both have extremely strict nationals. Is this true? I was somewhat interested in them, but I don't want to be in a house where any little thing could get us all in trouble

from what I've seen, chi o is a little more on the stricter side and I'd say agd is actually more on the less strict side. Just based off how the girls in each act.

Honestly the way Greek life is headed you will get in trouble in any sorority if you do something blatantly wrong.

agd is known for being a "strict" chapter nationally because they'll revoke charters when most other sororities would propose sanctions or send a consultant to work with the members.

This happened here not all too long ago where the girls were struggling with recruitment; so nationals came in, forced the current members to go alum or quit, and then recolonized a completely new chapter.

They also just revoked Miami of Ohio's charter, not because the members were in anyway unruly, but because they were having troubles similar to what AOPi has here with retention and recruitment.

So all of that plus what's happening at OU does make OSU's chapter fairly proactive

No. Your facts are not correct. Don't speak to issues where you don't know the exact details.

My best friend is on Panhellenic there, and this is their own nationals' press release:

"Alpha Gamma Delta volunteers and staff members have worked diligently with the chapter to provide ongoing support in hopes of sustaining a thriving chapter at Miami University. Unfortunately, the chapter has been unable to achieve successful membership results, undermining the ability to provide an enriching collegiate Fraternity experience. The collegiate members of Zeta Iota Chapter will be granted alumnae status."

You can also go look at Miami's recruitment numbers and see for yourself that their chapter wasn't hitting quota or total. I'm not saying that AGD is a bad chapter nationally, but they don't have the membership numbers that ChiO, Theta, TriDelta, Kappa, PiPhi, or KD have meanwhile they have the second most chapters, so less people paying for more chapters means that they have to make tough decisions like they did at Ohio State, and earlier this year at Miami.

Yes some sororities' nationals are more/less strict than others, but don't let that be the deciding factor when choosing your house. All of the sororities here generally abide by the same rules, and most of the day-to-day regulation is done by Ohio State's PHA (whose rules apply equally and to everyone). Nationals usually only get involved if things are relatively bad or if you're unlucky, and by that point you're getting in trouble no matter who your nationals are (e.g. look at Kappa whose Nationals were very lenient with them).

I feel like your friends go to OU because those chapters there have had run ins with nationals the last few years
But with that being said, I guarantee almost any chapter you join you will spend at least one semester on sopro because no one, OSU or the national sorority, wants to be known as a problem chapter, so it's easy to get in trouble for minor issues. Though honestly if you just do whatever nationals asks to fix the problems it shouldn't be a recurring issue
