the tiers at osu/how long they last
by: questionHow long does it generally take a sorority to rise or drop in their tier status? Like if I rush and my PC is bad does that sorority get replaced and another one moves up??

Are you seriously worried about this already? School just started for crying out loud.
Tiers do not matter. Only in greek rank and yes it affects your social calendar to a degree. But you will find the right house for you if you go in with an open mind.
But to answer your question: No..one bad PC isn't going affect the "ranking" of a house...however..if its turing into a "bad PC" year after year..then yes, a house might drop a tier (on greekrank.)
Also you should note that it isn't solely based on looks. Alpha Phi for example has more conventionally pretty girls than say Theta. But they aren't viewed as highly as Theta. It all depends on how you carry yourself.

First, welcome to The Ohio State University! We're so glad you decided to come here and to become a member of our greek system. And we're glad Gamma Phi is here too. I think you made a great decision because with a newer house you can really make your own impact on the house. Don't worry about ranking. I think most people look at all the sororities as about the same in ranking, and barely different in personalities. I think we pride ourselves on looking more at the individual. So go make Gamma Phi great!

it takes a while for things to change - but it happens. when i visited OSU for the first time i was in high school and i was visiting my sister and cousin who were both in greek life but different houses. back then there were a "top 6" - Kappa, DG, Pi Phi, Theta, A Phi, and KD (in no particular order..if there was an order than i wasn't aware.) slowly but surly after that it seems people viewed KD and middle and you'll hear mixed reviews about A Phi. Kappa's situation obviously shook things up as well. During recruitment this year there just seems to be a top two of Pi Phi and DG. As far as middle tier goes I don't think that much has changed there in a while aside from the addition of KD which is probably the top of the middle

i agree you will form strong relationships wherever you go BUT there is definitely a difference in social calendars depending on the houses and there is no denying that. i was simply stating what the most competitive two houses will be this year, compared to other years when there were more "top houses" ..which is relevant to her original post about tiers in general. please relax.

Since you were asking about tiers in relation to Gamma Phi, I'll answer as honestly as I can. I think they have a lot potential, especially for being so new. If you're interested in them, they are a great chapter to join (as is any chapter at OSU). I know a couple of Gamma Phi's, they seem like very genuine women. New chapter get a lot of criticism usually, because tiers tend to be rigid (like you won't get major switches between years). It does take awhile for new chapters to get their footing, but I've been gamma phi all over campus, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did well in recruitment this year. Not everything on this site has to be so damn negative!

well thanks for your answer. i was mainly wondering because gamma phi is ranked lowest on this site it seems but the girls look like middle tier girls so i didn't know if new houses maybe take the longest to rise or if maybe that sorority isn't off to a good start.
