Is it a good idea to email a couple houses in august to ask if they're doing informal and to introduce yourself?

No it's not a good idea because we won't know until September when they reset Total.

It's actually not a bad idea at all. Even though houses won't know yet, it can still help you get on their radar. You should email the ones who are way more likely and usually do it every year -- DZ, AOPi, AXO, AXD, GPhi? The top and mid tier will probably be hella insulted if you emailed them. Plus, whenever the top houses have to do informal, they already know who they want pretty much

Is way too big to do informal, but I think the other ones will. AXO struggled to keep girls after that housing crisis.

They required girls to live in the house and some of them quit AXO because they didn't want to live in. Yikes

AGD and Gamma Phi were over total this spring. Unless they graduated more seniors than the other chapters over total or lost a lot over the summer, they won't be doing it. AGD hasn't done informal is several years.
