I will be transfer to main campus in the fall and am very interested in fraternity rush. Could some one honestly tell me how the following fraternities are when it comes to overall campus involvement, parties and sorority relations: Kappa Sigma, Phi Psi, SAE, Sigma Chi.

This my opinion and I am trying to be unbiased as possible and recognize where these chapters succeed and fall short.
Campus involvement: I will preface this by saying at Ohio State the Greek community is kind of it's only little world and 99% of the other students could not care less what we do.
Phi Psi- Don't come off as overly involved. They have "The Phi Psi Open" to benefit the boys and girls club but they don't go to the involvement fair, participate in Buckeyethon or really break away from themselves it seems.
Kappa Sig- Seem to be taking it to the next level with philanthropy. They have "Greekstock" with Huey Mack performing and other smaller events to raise money.
Sigma Chi: Their "derby days" is very popular and successful.
SAE: Had the past president and vice president of the student government as brothers. Have a "hypnotist magic show" but don't really seem to do any philanthropies besides that.
Parties/Social status
1.Phi Psi- undisputed top house socially.
2. Sig Chi- still top tier but much less prestigious than Phi Psi
3. Kappa Sig- borderline top tier but will always get passed up for Phi Psi, Sig Chi, or TKE
4. SAE- top of the mid tier but definitely not as big socially as the other three
Sorority relations:
Phi Psi- close with Kappa, Alpha Phi and Pi Phi.
Kappa Sig- close with KD and Pi Phi.
Sig Chi-Close with DG and probably Pi Phi
SAE- close with Tridelt, Chi O and AGD

When I said Greek life is it's own little world I meant socially. As in non Greeks don't really care or know what we do. I can't speak for other chapters but mine has given me the opportunity to excel socially, become involved with philanthropy and form strong friendships with people in various chapters. If you are into resume building/gaining leadership skills there is definitely room for that as well. I 100% encourage everyone to check out Greek life. Worst thing that happens is you rush and decide its not for you.

you cannot go wrong with phi psi, kappa sig, or sig chi. they are all fun, good groups of guys. you will party everywhere in the top tier, so find a group of guys you like the most and rush their house. greeklife is a place where you will find friends for life, as well as connections, memories, etc.

Well I mean they both suck sae can't obtain a block partner and who knows what delt is doing irrelevancy at it's finest

See this is why I am confused because I see SAE and Delt consistently ranked in the middle and upper middle yet you are saying they both suck. Are you just doing that to bash them or are there really only three relevant fraternities at Ohio State?

Both SAE and delt are mid-uppermid level so they do social events with xo, kd, agd, and tridelt mostly with some top tiers mixed in. Delt is more typical preppyish in their style while SAE is more diverse in the image of their members. Both are pretty similar chapters but SAE puts more emphasis on winning awards. They're just less focused on parties compared to chapters like tke, phi psi, and sig chi.

Honestly best way to find out is to go to rush events in the fall and see for yourself. I would say Delt/SAE act more like gentlemen and TKE/Phi Psi act more like TFM, both have appeal to different types of guys. I wouldn't necessarily rule out mid tier fraternities right off the bat.

Yeah thanks man, I know I'm not really going to get a feel for a chapter through this site, I just wanted to see what people thought of them as a whole and what I should be expecting when I go to events. I specifically asked about campus involvement, partying and sorority relations because you don't really get a feel for those by just talking with the brothers because they are obviously going to talk themselves up.
Sorry that I'm keeping this thread going but how does fall recruitment work? Do fraternities mainly have rush parties or is it more like come by the house and just chat with the brothers?

Basically you have the fall involvement fair (Phi Psi does attend) and that is an easy way to talk to a lot of the chapters and grab rush schedules. Most of the rush events are the same i.e. cigar and poker night, Buffalo Wild Wings, Intramural sports. Fraternities are not supposed to recruit with alcohol but obviously it happens anyway.

I haven't heard if any chapters doing summer rush events but if you're interested you could possibly email their recruitment chairs and see if the fraternity has guys staying in columbus over the summer that you could meet.

i dont think any of the big houses -phi psi, kappa sig, sig chi- have summer events. maybe sae does

Wow thank you, this is the best response I've seen on this site. Now when you say greek life is more of its own thing and not really involved on campus, is there more to Ohio State greek life then just partying with a closer knit group of guys? I guess I'm asking if you get a holistic experience rather than just the stereotypical partying.
