rushing 2nd year
by: SophomoreI'm a freshman right now, and I'm not quite sure im ready for the commitment of being in a sorority. Is it hard to rush as a sophomore if I wanted to wait until next year? Are you more likely to be cut as a 2nd year?

It's not impossible to get a bid as a Sophomore, but your chances are reduced. For example, if you would have landed in a top tier as a Freshman, the best you can probably do as a sophomore would be a mid tier.
Upper and middle tiers place a limit on the number of upper classmen they will take. It's part of their membership selection so we can't tell you if it is an exact number or percentage that goes on their first bid list or if their overall score is influenced by class rank.
Think very hard about pledging this year.

coming from someone who rushed for the first time as a sophomore i don't recommend it!!! I only got called back to one house for the sisterhood round and so did other sophomores i know, the most i heard was 4 houses calling back one sophomore girl and she said two of them were basically bottom tier. it is definitely a lot harder in my opinion and i wouldn't do it if you have the option as a freshman and I'm sure other sophomores would agree

I'm an active in a mid tier house and we asked back very few sophomores to the sisterhood round. I think it was less than 10% of the invites. It's not because we didn't like you. We just had to limit how many PNMs were returning and there were so many great freshman.

This is my second time rushing and I thought I'd have a really good chance because I knew girls and a lot of houses. I didn't realize I would be in for such a rude awakening.
I had a pretty good schedule for the philanthropy round but I only got asked back to two houses yesterday. I really wish I would have pledged as a freshman.
