how long?

It really depends on you. Myself it always takes me awhile to get comfortable with others. It helped that I tried to do almost everything that was either at the house or hanging out with girls from my pledge class, we would go out together or just hang in someones dorm room but we really bonded by spending lots of time getting to know each other and sharing background and making memories. I chose to live in the house and that helped to get to know the older girls. But I really had to make a lot of effort.. And now that a year has passed I'm so HAPPY and I love my house, I have made friends that I am glad to call sisters. It sounds so cliche'c but that was my experience, so do expect to feel awkward for awhile but make lots of effort and before you know it you'll love it.

unless you either already have a lot of friends that are actives or you know lots of pledges then yes it will be awkward for awhile. Give it time or maybe you get lucky and hit it off immediately
