sorority upperclassman quota for rush?

by: Any

I was wondering if there was a separate quota for upperclassmen that they have to fill during formal rush? Going to be a Sophomore and doing winter recruitment.

Sorry sweetie. Most top tier sororities have the ability to take a full class of freshmen only, and they will usually try to do so if they have the chance. At maximum, top tier chapters will take 10-20% upperclassmen (which means only 5-10 sophomores, out of a pledge class of over 50 girls). Even the middle tier has been more selective lately, but they take closer to 30% upperclassmen (so like 15 girls out of 50ish). Bottom tier tends to have 50% or more upperclassmen, so that's where the numbers play in your favor... but you never know!

This is something that is common in the Deep South and recently, Ohio University started doing this. This was designed on campuses where no chapters will give bids to upperclassmen. In a way, Gamma Phi did this last year with their seniors: they went to panhel showing they could take total without offering bids to seniors so PHA allowed them to take around 15 seniors over total.

OSU has never had to have an upper class quota because chapters like Fuzzy, AOPi, DZ, AEPhi and AXO will offer bids to Sophomores and Juniors (about 50% of the PC). Middle tiers will take some sophomores but not juniors and their upper class average is around 25% of the PC. So, as long as you are willing to keep an open mind and be open to any chapter, you can probably get a bid

So if you're a junior there's essentially no point in even thinking you'll get into a middle/top tier chapter?

no, not really. im sure there are some exceptions but i dont know of any juniors in the new pledge classes of most of the middle/top sororities.
you shouldve done informal if you were a junior interested in recruitment.
but it still doesnt hurt to try, you might get along great with houses that you previously though you werent interested in. dont write them off just because of their social standing.

What about being a sophomore? I am transferring in and so I want to participate in formal recruitment. What are my chances for getting into a middle/top sorority??

It all depends on how you present yourself, every year the top/mid houses take a 2-4 soph/junior (junior more rare). But they are not on the lookout, you have to show what you offer from being older, explain why you are doing the process late but still a good fit. Also just be a overall fit for the sorority, if they see that you are similar to them and they wouldve 100% given you a bid a year ago youll still have a chance to do fine. Just go through it all very confident and you will hopefully find a place you fit in. The posts above have truth and it is going to be much more difficult but it can be done
