rich kids
by: ??How rich do you have to be to join each Fraternity? Are certain ones more accepting of kids from less wealthy families than others?

In all honesty Greek life can be costly. You are constantly going out, there's always expenses you don't think about like trips you take with your chapter, the general style (polo, brooks brothers, vineyard vines) is not inexpensive either. You definitely don't have to be rich to be in a fraternity but it tends to attract a lot of upper middle class kids from the suburbs. Phi Kappa Psi is the only fraternity that has the reputation for being "rich" but I seriously doubt that if you are a cool guy and they extend you a bid that they would treat you differently.

Greek life at osu is not expensive at all. All of the top houses cost about the same per semester. Phi psis don't have as much money as they like to think. The cars in their parking lot highlight that very clearly. If you can afford what ends up being an extra $1500-$2000 per semester, then you can afford to join any house. The only fraternity that truly had a lot of money was Sammy due to a decent amount of kids from very wealthy families

You have to pay your dues and there can be pricey things you don't think about prior to rushing, like date parties, dresses, alcohol, etc. But you do not need to come from money. Plenty of students in greek life pay their own way or are going to have to deal with student loans from the experience. Kids in Ohio who think they are "rich" should probably leave Ohio because a nice suburb in Ohio doesn't mean you are rich outside of Ohio.
