maximizing pref options
by: helllpif i maximized my options after pref, what are the chances i end up with my second choice house? i heard that being invited to pref means you’re already on their bod day list and you’re guaranteed a spot as long as you don’t mess up terribly at pref.
#2 by: you’ll be ok
#3 by: It works like this
Here's how it works:
Quota is calculated after all the pnm's signed cards are in after prefs. The number of signed cards divided by the number of sororities = Quota. Then bid matching starts.
The bid matching algorithm starts at the top of a sorority's ranked bid list and goes down in order matching with all the pnm's who put that house as their number one. You have better odds getting your #1 choice for this reason (but you could still get your #2). This matching continues until the house hits quota. If you are high enough on your #1's bid list to match with them before they reach quota then you will get a bid from them. If you are not high enough to match with them then the algorithm will continue the process to try to match you with your #2. If you are not high enough on your #2's bid list to match with them before they reach quota, then you will be placed for a bid with either house, even if it puts them over quota. This is how you are guaranteed a bid, Quota Additions. Where you are placed depends on your ranks of the houses, your place on the chapters' ranked bid lists, and relative chapter sizes. No one knows who the quota additions are, they are just regular bids like any other.
If you get your #2 and are disappointed you need to smile and go to bid day and give them a chance. You would be amazed how being welcomed into the sisterhood and meeting your new mc will affect your state of mind. You have no other options at this point for a bid this year so make it work for you!!!!!!
If you only had one pref house and put them on your card then you have got that bid. Guaranteed and congrats. Easy peasy for you.
If you decide to only rank one house and do not match with them before they reach quota, you are done and out of the process. You are ineligible to be placed as a quota addition and will go without a bid. If this happens, you will be contacted before bid day. SIP (suicide) does nothing to help your chances with getting your #1 house, neither does being ranked low by your #2; it's all how you are ranked by your #1 house and they don't see your rankings at any round so that isn't a consideration in their final ranking of pnm's or during bid matching. If you don't get a bid you are eligible for a snap or a cob, but neither is likely so don't get your hopes up.
