100 bids per sorority?

by:

I'm a PNM and we were told that each chapter could give out 100 bids. That seems so high. Is that normal and will most give out that many?

quota goes up every year depending on how many pnms pha has/how many pnms each chapter wants/needs. it usually goes up by 10-20 spots every year so 80-100 is probably accurate!

Quota is never a predetermined number, it's not calculated until after pref when all pnm's have turned in their cards and is the same for every chapter. Quota = The number of pnm's at the end ranking pref houses divided by 15 chapters. But some chapters will take over Quota because every PNM is guaranteed a bid if she ranks both her pref houses, so sometimes it's necessary to put a chapter over Quota to give everyone a bid. This does NOT mean you are guaranteed your first choice, just that you will get a bid to either one. If you only have one pref house then you are guaranteed that bid. If you only put down one of your two houses (suicide) then you are NOT guaranteed a bid. If that house reaches quota before bid matching with you then you are not getting a bid. Don't suicide unless you would not take a bid from your number 2 no matter what and are okay with not being in a sorority at all.

What about snap bids how could you get one?

Snap bids are rare and nothing at all for any pnm to count on. A sorority that does not bid match up to quota can offer snap bids before bid day to hit that number, but most houses do hit quota and if they don't it's not by much. Pnm's are eligible for a snap bid if they began recruitment but dropped out at any point or if they only put one of their two pref houses on their card and didn't bid match with that house. But eligible doesn't mean likely, far from it. There is nothing a pnm can actively do to get a snap bid. For the lucky pnm who is offered a snap bid, she would be notified before bid day and must decide quickly if she accepts; if so she goes to bid day with everyone else. After bid day there is no snap bidding.

Almost correct except - if you SIP - single intention preference or “suicide” - you aren’t eligible for a snap bid. So don’t do it unless you’re ok with potentially not going Greek at all.

No, I don’t think it’s correct to say SIP is excluded from getting a snap bid when NPC rules specifically allow it. Pnm’s are not punished for exercising their right to SIP. There is no binding agreement in that case and if a chapter wants to snap them they can.
