rush
by: BobDo any freshman do informal rush in the fall or do they all wait until the spring to rush a fraternity?
#1 by: technically
no freshmen can rush a fraternity or a sorority until they have completed 12 credit hours with a 2.5 GPA.
and while "no bids, or promises of a bid, are to be made to a first-term freshman student" many fraternities do promise or give bids with the understanding that you wont be initiated until after winter break.

As a former rush chair, you can rush all fall, but it honestly doesn't make a big difference. By the time freshmen go off to winter break, half of them come back and end up rushing different fraternities than they did in the fall. So go to events in the fall, but just know your opinion will likely evolve

For my fraternity we know who the vast majority our pledge class is going to be by the en of fall semester. For a competitive chapter like us your going to put yourself into a serious disadvantage if you don't come around in the fall. It varies from chapter to chapter how seriously they take rush.
