small up and coming fraternities next year?

by:

I will be a freshman next year and am looking to go greek. The idea of building a fraternity that is small but has huge potential really interests me. I dont want to start something from scratch but a fraternity that has a solid foundation and could be mid to top tier by the time I graduate. Any fraternities fit this mold?

Beta is probably your best option. They are recruiting for rechartering next year. They have a great house, big alumni base, and supposedly $4-6 million more in renovations going into the house.

commenters 2 and 3 are joking themselves if they think that those fraternities will be even close to middle tier. Sigma Pi is terrible, theyre two steps forward three back, and they've been that way for years. don't join there!

then phi sigma kappa is way too small to get to middle tier by the time you graduate.

Beta is your best bet and would be a really cool experience, or Delta Sig could fall into this category, but I have a feeling once Deptola leaves they'll fall right back down

^lol what? SAE isn't an "up and coming" chapter at all. In fact, they're probably on their way down. Especially since their nationals abolished pledging

It's tough to think off the top of my head. I know Sigma Pi has been growing since they just re-established themselves here a few years ago and they have potential I guess. I think they'd at least be worth a shot at checking out if that's what you're interested in

Phi Sigma Kappa just started a year ago and is pretty chill.

Sigma chi is moving up after their scandal and in a few years could be back to where they were. Beta has a good house and is a big name fraternity that will grow pretty quickly, but you won't have any older guys to show you the ropes. Top tier chapters still have a. Lot to improve on too. Don't rob yourself of a good experience joining an irrelevant chapter.

Check out chi phi! It's a smaller, newer frat with a ton of great guys. I could definitely see them as middle tier if they get big enough in the next 4 years

Phi Sigma Kappa probably has less than 40. Sigma Pi has a little more than 50, but a lot of Seniors are graduating this year so it'll probably be around 40 at the start of the fall semester before pledging starts. Sigma Chi and SAE have way more than 40 and SAE is already established while Sigma Chi was top tier until they got in trouble, but they look like they'll be back to top tier by the end of next year the way things are going. I don't know much about Beta though. They're probably a little too new where it may be hard to be middle or top tier by the time you graduate because it takes a little time to establish yourself and grow more, but you never know.

chi phi, delta upsilon, phi sigma kappa, delta chi, acacia, theta xi, triangle, and phi kappa tau are most of the ones under 40 right now

Why wouldn't you just join a chapter that's already middle tier that's working towards being top tier?

It takes a long time for a fraternity to move up a tier. Sororities have 140-170 members so they are usually not going to want to do something with a 40 man chapter. Unless you really click with guys in a smaller chapter then I would say avoid that.

It's hard enough to maintain a tier yet alone gain one. You can't storm in and become mr president and turn everything around. A fraternity that is small is small for a reason and doesn't really have "huge potential".

If you're looking for something brand new to get into Phi Sigma Kappa might be the way to go. Solid guys and really involved on campus. If you want something that's slightly more established but on its way up, check out Pi Kappa Phi. Chill guys that know how to have fun and they've got a pretty nice house unlike most of the up and coming fraternities
