this weekend

by:

As this weekend approaches and you get your papers back, don't be discouraged if you don't get asked back to your top houses. Some houses have a ton of girls that want them and they can only pick around 50, so please don't take it personal and get upset! Also, please don't drop out unless you REALLY want to. And if so I would consider going to preference round and if you still don't click with that chapter you don't have to put any sorority down, no one will force you to join one. Please give the greek community a chance and try not to be close minded!!

if for next round they can only choose about 50, that means they are basically choosing the pledge class right there. So when girls out of those 50 want to pref other chapters, they wouldn't have enough to even make a pref round or a pledge class. So no, I believe the chapters are taking more then 50 for next round..

During the Meet the Chapters Round, there were 1126 girls who registered for recruitment and visited every house.

Top houses had very high retention rates, which enabled them to be more selective. This was very evident in Philanthropy round. Top tier houses only invited back less than half of the original pnms (around 450), middle tier houses invited back around 500-600 girls, and bottom tier houses got the leftovers and girls who didn't cross them off their list.

Going into Sisterhood round, it will be even more competitive. Top tier chapters might invite back like 200-250 women, which means there will be severe cuts and lots of broken hearts. Middle tier might invite back closer to 300. By Preference Round, those numbers are practically cut in half. These are just numbers, but it's a friendly reminder of how important it is to keep an open mind!

Each chapter will invite back 100-150 to Pref. This will be based on the total number ranking chapters after 3rd round divided by 14 chapters.

3rd round will continue to get cuts based on RFM. Some chapters will only be able to invite about 150 back to 3rd.

Aka don't be upset if you don't get asked back to Kappa, Theta, DG, or Alpha Phi. You might have put them down in your top 6, but could end up with all of your bottom picks instead due to cuts and RFM

can you explain what RFM is and how it works? and also how come some chapters can only invite back about 150 to the 3rd round while others can get 200-250? Shouldn't all the chapters be inviting back basically the same amount for these next 2 rounds since they will all have generally equal pledge classes?

RFM is based on past chapter return rates. Top tier chapters usually have the highest return rates, which means that pnms will put them on the top of their list and want to go back. Because of this, Top tier chapters are allowed to be more selective and have a smaller number of pnms each round, because everyone will want to go back anyway. Lower tier chapters usually have lower return rates, and have to invite more pnms back so they have a chance of filling the same quota as top tier chapters. Does that make sense?

Oh! That makes more sense. More girls are choosing the higher chapters, but they can only ask back the same as the other chapters, therefore more girls are getting cut even though the same number are getting asked back, right?

Also if you get asked back to any top tier chapters for sisterhood round, does that mean you have a good shot at making it to their pref round? Since that means they obviously liked you enough for sisterhood to not cut you?

If you get asked back for sisterhood round, you have a little more than 50% chance of getting asked back for pref. Which aren't bad odds. By sisterhood round, top and middle tier chapters have weeded out most of the girls that they don't want. That being said, if you still have 3 or 4 top tier chapters left for sisterhood round, there's a good chance you'll be asked back to at least 1 or 2 of them for pref, as long as you don't screw up

Just a clarification. Through RFM, top chapters are only allowed to ask back so many. This allows each PNM investigate REALISTIC options. Like "no fair" girl up there, she needs to be realistic to who will take her.

The advantage to the chapters is that it allows all chapters the best opportunity to make quota.

Sit back and think if you really like the girls in your 4th through 9th chapters instead of your top 3. What I'm not saying is look at a popularity contest.

Could you be friends with these girls? Can you hang out with these girls watching TV with no make up on and in your sweats knowing they won't judge you? That is what you need to look at.

You will have fun in one of these chapters if you don't get your top 3 and you will have a great sisterhood. Give all of your options a chance and you will be happy.

I think a lot of the pnms, including myself, are concerned about the social aspect of the chapters. Personally I am primarily looking for the sisterhood, and all of those amazing moments that you named above with girls who make me feel comfortable that I can relax with. However, it is constantly perceived that the middle-lower chapters don't have much of the social part that girls seek within a sorority (and that is normal so please do not bash that). This is what is made hard through this process because I, and many other girls I have heard it from, feel like the genuine girls are more in the chapters that don't offer much of a social aspect. When joining a sorority that you are committed to for your college career, it should be understandable that a pnm is going to want a chapter that gives the whole package of having both amazing sisters and being able to do things and party WITH those amazing sisters. Can anyone vouch for the middle and lower chapters for what social aspects they have to offer? That way more pnms can feel more open to them? Considering they are already well aware that they have the sisterhood part down pact.

i understand what you are saying. im in a solid "middle tier" sorority even though i hate using the tier system. anyways, i have roommates that are in upper tier sororities. we have the same amount of TGs, date parties, sisterhoods, etc as them. the only difference might be some of the fraternities we schedule with. personally, i don't like phi psi because i find them douchey and stuck up (most of them, not all). so im glad we dont have socials with phi psi. we still hang out with tke from time to time, and do TGs with the majority of middle tier fraternities. you will get the same experience no matter what, i promise you. you will be much happier choosing a sorority based on the girls and not the social aspect. not saying you cant choose one for both aspects, go wherever you feel comfortable!

Thank you for the clarity:) But ontop of the scheduled events such a tgs and sisterhoods, what about the girls themselves? Even though there are just as many social events as the top houses, will you fit in in the middle tier chapters if you are a big partier? I like go to out a lot on the weekends so I'm worried that I would feel out of place if the girls aren't like that!

It depends on which houses you're looking at, but for sure there are middle tier sororities that have what you're looking for!

KD- they're in between top tier and middle tier, and have plenty of girls who like to go out a lot
DDD- great sisterhood, and a lot of their girls are the "work hard, play hard" types
AGD- very chill, party girls of the middle tier. "idgaf" attitude

I'm in a "middle" as well. We have a pretty good social calendar (mix of pregames, TGs, date parties, formals etc) but we also have alot of stuff on our own and go out together. Mid/low tiers get a rep for not doing anything but I think there's a range. We have girls that party alot and girls that hardly do and everything in-between. Our older girls love to have younger girls over for pre games and go downtown, to bars, or out on campus. You'll find this range in almost any sorority, so please don't worry!

It sounds lame, but you should be looking for the girls you want to hang out with during the week, not the weekend. Anyone can drink and have fun together, but it really depends on how you all get along sober. Some top tiers struggle with this. Good luck!

There is nothing wrong with mid tier chapters. The people on here that bash the mid tier are typically people who hide behind the anonymity of the internet. They have social lives and many of the girls in these chapters date/hang out/study/are friends with guys in great fraternities. I know girls in mid tier houses that date Tekes, Phi Psis and mid tier fraternities. Even AOPi is doing Greek Week with the Phi Psi.
Give mid tier chapters a chance and you will have a social life. If you are uptight, it doesn't matter what house you get into.
Besides, none of us on this website can change how a chapter already voted. If they cut you already its done. Your options are to not be Greek or look at the opportunities that the other chapters can provide.

AOPi and Phi Psi is a terrible example. They're the worst sorority on campus. Phi Psi will definitely have events with Pi Phi and Kappa that week anyway.

If you need more examples of phi psi being total dbags, there you go. It wouldn't kill them to try and be nice to what I'm sure is a really fun group of girls and get to know someone else. That's kind of the point of Greek pairings.
