How do the last rounds work?

by:

Ok so I'm out of state, first year so without knowing anyone who went through it and not being a legacy, just wondering how it works.

After the Sisterhood Round, you're left with 2 houses... meaning you're guaranteed to end up at one of those 2? Like if you put house 1 as #1, house 2 as #2, and get a bid from house 2 but not 1, you go to House 2 right?

Or can u be dropped after Preference Round, I think that's the round after sisterhood?

how it works is right (what you were thinking): IF you have 2 houses during pref (you could only have 1, your max is 2) & you don't get a bid from your first preffed house, but you get a bid from your second preffed house, you will then end up with your second house. there is a possibility you can be dropped by both houses after pref & get no bid though. at that point, you can receive a snap bid or do cob once rush is over (or rush informally in the fall or rush again next spring). if you receive a bid from a sorority you preffed & choose to decline, you have to wait until formal recruitment to rush again. i'm 99% sure this is how it goes

also, just because you have houses does NOT mean you are guaranteed a bid. going through recruitment doesn't guarantee you end up somewhere. same if you do cob or go through informal recruitment

Actually if you maximize your preference options, meaning you put either one house or both your houses on your final preference list, it is a guarantee you will get a bid somewhere! By maximizing your options, you won’t be dropped by all houses after preference!!!

oh i've been told even if you do that, you aren't guaranteed a bid. whoever told me that is definitely wrong then lol

Once you make it to pref, as long as you list both houses you are guaranteed to get one. Your rho ham can answer these questions too!!

There is no guarantee that you will receive an invite to preference round, but most PNMs will receive at least one invite. If you were invited to only one sorority and list that sorority on your MRABA card then you should get a bid to that sorority. If you were invited to two sororities and you list both sororities on your MRABA card, indicating that you would accept a bid from either sorority, then you should get a bid from one of these sororities. They will try to place you with your first choice sorority but if that doesn't work out you will be in your second choice sorority. If you are invited to two sororities but only list one of the two on your MRABA card, then there are no guarantees of a bid. Keep in mind that listing both sororities does not hurt your chances of getting into the sorority you list first. However, if you don't get into that sorority and get into the second, you are bound to that bid and if you were to then decide you don't want that bid, you have to wait a full year to go through any type of recruitment (informal, formal).

Thank you for clearing this up - this is super important.
As one who did not get her first choice - let me tell you - if you get your second choice, give it a chance. I was pretty upset when I got my bid to my second choice, having had a really smooth recruitment experience with no disappointments along the way. Not getting my number one was a big shock, and I was ready to just walk away from Greek life altogether rather than try it out with number two. My roommate talked me into just giving it a couple of weeks to meet more people, go to events, etc. Fast forward and I cannot see myself anywhere else. I have a lot of friends in my first choice house and, while I still think they're great, I see now why I would never have felt truly comfortable there. The recruitment system seems totally bizarre but it's been in place for years and years for a reason - it works. Trust it. Good luck everyone!

Since people are still confused about not getting a bid after pref round.
