grades
by: QuestionIn relations to "bad grades", I am typically a good student when it comes to all things communications, history, etc. and a poor student in the areas of math/science (I took both this semester). Thankfully my major has nothing to do with either of these subjects. I ended up with a D in math, even after spending numerous hours in the tutoring center this semester, and plan to do freshman forgiveness, and my GPA will be just below a 3.0. How much will this hurt me in the rush process? Is it worth rushing next semester or should I wait a semester to boost my GPA? Essentially what I am asking is will it make or break a girl receiving a bid if the sorority connects with her in all other areas?

The more competitive houses will make large cuts in the beginning due to grades- they meet so many people in that first round and have to cut so many before house tours that having below a 3.0 is an easy negative and you will probably be cut. That being said, you should be fine with most of the houses that are not in the "top 6" and possibly Kappa (they are typically less strict when it comes to grades even in the beginning).

What chapters can take and what they will take are two different issues. Even though they post that their minimum 2.7 or whatever, don't count on it. When chapter averages are 3.3-3.5, no chapter is looking for a girl to bring them down.
I would expect not only the top tier to cut you, but the next tier too.

I had a 2.7 going into rush because I got a D in Chem 1210. I was cut from DG and Pi Phi after the first round. Surprisingly Theta kept me the whole way through BUT that is because I connected a lot with every girl in theta I talked to and I coul tell they liked me so they probably made an exception and bumped me up even though my grades were so bad. I was really lucky that happened to me because it doesn't happen often

both make huge grade cuts too. Any of the sororities worth joining make large grade cuts except Kappa and DG's arent as strict
