Well over 1,000 girls have already registered for formal recruitment

If over 1,000 girls go through recruitment, then the question is how many girls does each house take which I am guessing doesn't equal 1,000 spots? Some girls don't get bids? Is that a typical # from year to year? I would think some drop out before and during recruitment??

the sororities are preparing for pledge classes of 60, because many will drop, get cut for grades, or just suck

There are not a specific number of spots available before recruitment begins. The quota is based on the number of PNMs (potential new members) that are still in the process as of preference round divided by the number of sororities. That number is quota.

That being said, there will be girls who will drop out because they get dropped by their favorites, signed up but never make it to first round, or decide that Greek life is not for them. The vast majority of girls who go through preference round get bids if they don't suicide by only checking off one sorority on their bid.

it's not the total number of girls on preference, it's technically 90% of girls attending preference, allowing the sororities wiggle room

If you're one of the 10% that doesn't get a bid, you can still join gamma phi beta

You can still go through recruitment with Gamma Phi. Whether you can "join" is up to them. It's doubtful 100% who go through the colonization recruitment will get a bid.

It's not 100% - 90% attending pref = 10% don't get a bid. Quota is based on 90% who attend pref. Because some girls never sign bid cards or suicide, a very small number -- much less than 10% -- that don't get bids. The number is more like 2 or 3% that attend Pref don't get bids.

I understand how say you attend 3 pref, but would only want to be in 1 out of the 3 chapters, so you put 1 down and risk suiciding. However, what are the consequences of putting only 2 out of the 3 down if you only would want 2 out of the 3 chapters?

None of us have a crystal ball. It depends on how you land on the 2 chapter's bid lists.

like "wait, wait" said, it's very hard to tell. If you have Alpha Phi, ChiO, DG, TriD, KD, Kappa, Theta, or Pi Phi as the two out of three you select your chances are very reduced of getting a spot, because even though ChiO and TriD arent "top tier" they get good return rates for bid day. So if you aren't in the top 110-125% for these sororities you aren't going to get a bid because they'll get most of their first pick girls and a few of their second round picks.

The only way I'd encourage you to not maximize your options after pref is if there is no way you'd ever ever ever want to be in the other option(s). With not having spring recruitment anymore, and very few chapters doing fall (with few spots) If you pledge another and decide it's not for you, you won't be missing out on recruitment opportunity at the better house because they wont be recruiting anyways.

I think they meant more of like will you purposely not get a bid from those 2 houses just from seeing you only put down 2 instead of 3, like in the instance where if you suicide, you have a high risk of not getting the bid solely for the fact that you suicided, does that apply for putting down just 2 as well?

by: no

if a sorority sees you suicided them or only put them down, that wouldnt be a reason for them to cut you. It's just decreasing your probability of getting a house, so the better the house with less options youre willing to accept, the less likely you are to get a bid

Sororities can't see if you suicided. Everything is done by the 'puter.

take it from someone off of a sorority's recruitment committee, yes they can. But its not a fact they share with average members or pnms
