question about legacy
by: incoming freshman
Hi! :) I don't know if this is the correct place/if there even is a correct place to ask this, but I am an incoming freshman starting this upcoming fall and I am 99% sure I want to be involved with greek life! My mom was in a sorority (at a different college, but the sorority is also at OSU) and I think the whole legacy connection is cool but I don't want to go into it thinking I only want the house she was in. I hope I like it and stuff but since I haven't met any of the members or know about any of the houses I am trying to keep an open mind.
My question is... if I feel a connection with a non-legacy house and not my mom's, will that house drop me in fear that I will choose the house where I am a legacy? Or do the other houses not know if a girl is a legacy at another house? Sorry if this is rambling I just started to think about next year and the question just kind of popped up!!

You don't need to announce legacy status and you won't get dropped just because of your legacy status. I think it is great that you are going in with an open mind. The legacy thing can be a super special connection for sure! But like you said, it is important to see all of the houses first as each house is different. Good luck and welcome to Ohio State!

Just only let your legacy house know by having your mom contact them. Some sororities even have a form to send in. Don't put your legacy status anywhere that another house would see it and you won't have to worry. You do want your legacy house to know though, in case you really want them, because a lot of sororities have a rule to put legacies at the top of the bid list if they go to pref.
