informal recruitment as a sophomore

Is it worth doing informal as a sophomore if the formal process didn't work out? I had a lot of my favorite houses right until pref and although I was okay with the bid I was going to get I just didn't feel 100% happy, and didn't want to waste my time or the sororities. I just really wanted to be part of one and didn't feel ready to rush my freshmen year. I just hope my age was not what hindered me.
