are rec letters necessary?

thinking about rushing next sem, but why are rec letters even available? are they necessary or do they provide any benefit, or do anything to help at all? im not really sure as to why they really exist. every chapter is a little different so why would a rec letter from a different school matter?

Not necessary, BUT THEY CAN’T HURT, especially if you are a legacy to a house or you know an influential alum (especially an Oh State graduate) of a certain sorority.
