a grad’s advice

by: Old

Just graduated and my younger sister came to me asking me about this site & sororities for her school, so I want to say this in hopes that one girl getting ready to rush sees this & gets it:

The biggest mistake I made when it came to rushing & Greek life?
Putting ideas in my head early about where my home would be. I spent hours deciding what “tier” I should be and based my opinions so much on what the rumors of each house were. I ended up suicide bidding my freshman year & not getting a bid. I was devastated, but it was my own fault. The other house that I had left during recruitment, after doing informal for two semesters with various houses, ended up being my home. I couldn’t be happier with my home.

It was a house I avoided so much beforehand. I told myself that it wasn’t a fit and that they were insane if they thought I’d want to be there. It was nothing like the rumors I read or the idea I had. The “tier” didn’t matter. All that mattered were the friends & memories I made, and I wish I hadn’t listened to anything negative in the first place or put ideas in my own head. I lost time that I could’ve been happy & making memories with my sisters over reviews on this dumb site.

If your heart is in it for the right reasons: You’ll find your squad, even when you think it’s an impossible fit. You will have fun events with a ton of frats no matter what “tier” your house is. You will find pride in your letters & want people to know what house you’re in. You’ll make friends with girls in every chapter. You’ll have tons of opportunities.

Don’t let this site be the reason you miss your opportunity or don’t find your house.

There’s a reason the Rho Ghams always tell you to keep an open mind! Everybody should be able to find a home in Greek life. I would have never imagined myself in the sorority I am in now, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. To all the PNMs out there - don’t suicide bid/leave houses out! 2 weekends of recruitment is nothing compared to 4 years of friendship and experiences. I can fully say that every OSU sorority is worth joining, and I have friends in every chapter that love where they are. Listen to your heart, not this site!

This is the only good advice on this website. Don’t listen to rumors, and form your own opinions.

This is the truth!! What you want out of a sorority, you will get out of it. If you truly want sisters and a place to call home, you will find it. If you're in it for the made up tiers and popularity, that's most likely all you'll get. Keep an open mind, and you will find your true home. :))

Couldn’t agree more! My chapter wasn’t even on my radar before recruitment but it ended up becoming my college home. Not to mention, once you graduate who even cares about “tiers”? You’re joining a sisterhood for life so make it the place YOU care about most :)

This is it! The BEST advice is don’t suicide bid! The system is designed so that everybody from preference round is guaranteed a bid. So as long as you don’t suicide/single intentional preference, you WILL be in a sorority!
