rushing from out of state

by: New student

I will be at OSU next fall coming from out of state. Will not being from Ohio hurt me during recruitment or does it not matter? Are there certain sororities that only take instate students?

It shouldn’t be a big deal. Obviously some people will have sorority connections already if they’re instate, but sororities are generally welcoming to new people. I rushed out of state and I did fine, most sororities have girls from out of state.

yes it matters, at least for top tier houses. They like to give bids to big friend groups from high schools in Ohio. It’s pretty rare to have ppl from out of state, and if there are, they’re from bordering states or east coast states like NY, NJ. West coast ppl are gonna have a hard time getting into a top house, it’s all about knowing ppl

This is the dumbest comment I’ve ever seen.

This isn't some Southern school where you have a strike against you because you're a Yankee or you didn't go to the right summer camp. Yeah, sure, it is harder simply because you probably don't already know OSU sorority girls from high school, but that can be said anywhere. I'm from out of state, and I found that the girls are welcoming to out of staters. Relax, be yourself, you'll do fine.
