should i go through informal?
by: Save the BeesHey guys, I am a freshman that just finished formal recruitment. It did not pan out at all in the way I expected it to, but I really wanted to end the process by receiving a bid and so I went all the way to pref. I did not end up receiving a bid. I truly feel like Greek life could be a fit for me, I am just very unconfident after what happened to me during formal and I believe that I am one of those girls that just “slip through the cracks.” Is going through informal awkward after going through formal since all the houses have already cut me once? If I got a bid would the members treat me as “less” because I didn’t match with them through the formal process? Is it hard to get invited to individual houses recruitments? How competitive of a process is it to get a bid? Thank you so much for helping me out!

Nobody slips through the cracks. Typically if you go to pref and maximize your options (didn't suicide), you get a bid. Only you know the answer to that.
Let your Rho Gam know you are interested in informal now. The parties are smaller and you have more of a chance to talk to members. Be yourself because members know when you are trying too hard.
Keep your options open during informal and don't think you are too good for any chapter.

I disagree. Plenty of girls slip through the cracks in a way . And there’s nothing wrong with not completely maximumizing your options if you kept your mind open but in the end don’t see yourself in a house at all you shouldn’t force yourself to join. I didn’t maximize my options- put 2/3 houses down for pref round and didn’t get a bid- but I know if I had put down the third house I would’ve dropped before I got initiated. Luckily I got a snap bid from one of the other houses. Sure almost nobody gets cut from all houses but if you get cut from all but 1 or 2 houses you have no interest in at all- there’s no shame at throwing in the towel and giving it another shot at informal.
