pref match
by: HIhow do you end up getting a bid your second choice? does that happen if you're ranked higher by that sorority than the one you listed first? and how would suicide bidding play into this

So the system will go down a sorority’s bid list in order and take every girl who ranked them first. if they meet quota before your name on the list, the system will do the same thing with whichever chapter you put second. if it goes down the second sororities list and meets quota before your name, (so you still didn’t get a bid), you will be added to one of the sororities bid list as a “quota addition”. If that happens, the system tries to add you to the first sororities bid list but that may not happen and you may end up on the second sorority’s list due to the complicated nature of the process. BUT if you suicide, the system will not make you a quota addition. So if you suicide and don’t make your top choices bid list, it ends there and you will not receive a traditional bid. hope this helps!

Like this: You rank your houses and the sororities rank all of their pref pnm's. The algorithm will go down a house's ranked bid list and try to match those names with the pnm's who listed that house first. This goes on until that house matches to quota. If your name is high enough to match on your #1's list you will get that bid. If not, the algorithm then tries to match you with your second choice house the same way. If you match before they reach quota you get a bid from that house, but if you don't match with them either, you will still get a bid as a quota addition. This could be to either house, but the algorithm tries hard to match you with your first choice, although there are other factors also considered, so not always. If you have only one house at pref and put it on your card you will get that bid. You are guaranteed a bid if you list everywhere you pref; but, if you pref two houses and only rank one (SIP or suicide) and you don't match with that one house, it is over for you. You will not get a bid there and you won't be placed as a quota addition. BTW pnm's do not 'bid' so IDK why people call it suicide bidding, it's just called suiciding, or technically Single Intentional Preference or SIP.
