by: pnm

I got dropped by all of my favorite houses that I connected to the most (and no im not just talking top tier houses). Should I try to finish it out?

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You may be bowled over by one of the groups you have remaining. Worst case scenario, you attend prefs and don't make a strong enough connection so you drop out then. Dropping now denies you the opportunity to find out.

Yes! Finish! You only spent a short time with each sorority so you can’t possibly make final decisions on one round. Give it a chance!

Are you a sophomore or are your grades on the lower side (<3.0)? Those are the two biggest factors for being dropped the first round, especially if you thought you had good connections.

I agree with the other posters. Continue through Pref Round. Hopefully you can find a fit after you meet more people and go through more rounds. If you still don't like the houses you have after Pref Round, don't sign the agreement. You can then do informal later, especially if you can improve grades this semester or meet girls already in houses that can vouch for you during selection.

Your other option would be to trust the process. There are plenty of PNMs who initially don't like their house much at first, but make connections later on - like after they get their Big or make friends within their pledge class - and end up loving their chapter.

I dropped recruitment today! I was honesty just exhausted and didn’t want to go to 11 houses again today! I liked some of them, but overall I thought it was a bit too superficial for me

Obviously nothing wrong with choosing not to join Greek life, but since you mentioned finding it exhausting and superficial, I'd recommend informal if you want to take another crack at it. It's so much less stressful, you go to less houses and not all on the same day, and conversations tend to be better (as actives, informal can seem superficial because of the structure and topics we have to cover).

Of course, that's only if you're still considering joining. Do what works best for you! There's plenty of other groups at OSU, including service and professional Greek Letter Organizations.

I really would consider it, but I’m already a sophomore and it’s hard enough to get a bid as a sophomore, so I feel like no one wants a junior joining their org :(

A couple houses may do spring informal if they're under total - PHA should have a list of who is participating.

You may also be surprised. There's always juniors that go through fall informal and get a bid. You're right that it's easier as a sophomore, but there's no harm in giving it a shot if it's something you really want. :)

I did fall informal and formal as a junior. I didn't get a bid through informal, but I got one through formal. I know of several girls who also went through recruitment as juniors. You can totally still find a home as an upperclassman.

so when would spring informal happen? I don’t really care about joining a “top house” or whatever. I just want to make some more female friends up here in cbus! I am an engineering major so there’s just not a lot of girls in my classes :-( I dropped it because I had seriously just too much homework and studying to do yesterday and wish I could have stayed in but I just couldn’t make it work.

Everything they said, plus PHA and/or the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life should have a list and can get you in touch with the recruitment chairs that are participating in Spring Informal.

On a side note, studying/coursework is way more important than formal recruitment. I hope you find a house you love through informal or next year :)

I think you should definitely stick with it till at least pref because you have nothing to lose! but you have everything to lose if you drop now. If things don’t work out after pref rounds, then you can drop before bid day and then try and do a COB bid from some sororities that do them!

Stick with it, but if you opt for COB (which I did), it usually starts the day after Bid Day! Let the Panhel office know the day after Bid Day that you are interested.
