phi sigma rho vs other sororities

by:

I’m an engineering major and going through recruitment, but I was wondering what oeople’s opinions of Phi Sigma Rho are? I want a social sorority but kinda interested in the idea of all engineers. Does anyone have opinions of them? Are they relatively social? Do people not like them and do they do things with frats?

honestly I haven’t heard anything about them since I went through recruitment. Not very social or prominent

My best friend/roommate is a Phi Rho. She absolutely loves it!

From what I know they operate like a normal chapter. They’re slightly smaller than most chapters, but bigger than some smaller typical PHA ones (pretty sure they’re bigger than AOII, maybe also DZ). I know she has socials with frats about the same amount as my chapter. I’ve seen pics from them a lot & they honestly seem pretty fun & they seem to like each other. I’d check them out. They don’t do formal recruitment but they recruit around the same time. I know they’re also considered PHA so you can’t join Phi Rho and another sorority.

According to the SFL website, Phi Rho only has 79 active members. Not saying its not a great organization to be a part of, but it is A LOT smaller than other sororities. (It is bigger than AOPI tho according to the webiste but thats the only one)

^ I also disagree that they're close to the same size as other chapters, but I also wouldn't trust the SFL site stats ever because it's never accurate. Not super relevant here, but just so you know for general references

Im an engineer in another chapter so i know some girls in it. They all like it a lot & don’t seem to care about what any other chapter thinks. They have fun and I see them doing plenty in Greek life. I love my chapter & wouldn’t imagine being anywhere else, but i think i also would’ve really liked being in phi Rho too (And I don’t think I would’ve missed any “experiences” by joining them)

I think it’s just important what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for “top tier”, stereotypical, and super well-known, I wouldn’t go with phi rho. Otherwise, I’d look into them!

I went thru recruitment hoping to meet a diverse group of girls which is why I didn’t join phi rho, but I know a few and they’re as sweet as can be

I rushed them & did formal at the same time & decided to join a different chapter.

I liked them a lot and they were cool to be around and I did feel really "at home" and comfortable there. They gave off a good vibe & you could tell it was good sisterhood. My problem was that I was too scared to drop formal with the hope of getting a bid from them. That's the only thing that really scared me away because formal gave me a hgiher chance of getting a bid. I do see groups of them in my classes and they always seem nice and are some of the most social ones in my classes

Hi! I’m in Phi Rho so am obviously biased toward it, but also want everyone going through recruitment to find the chapter that fits them the best- sometimes it’s phi rho sometimes it isn’t. I also went through formal recruitment and ultimately decided Phi Rho would be the better fit for me. The 79 member number is inaccurate as we have closer to 90 girls, and usually around 10 on co-op each semester which brings the active number slightly down. Also, we try to support people on co-op by sending them cute notes and small gifts so they know we are thinking of them while they are gone. Personally I like that we are a little smaller because I know everyone really well (and I only joined last semester) and the sisterhood is really strong sisterhood. There’s a great mix of girls who like to go out at least 3 times a week to girls who spend a lot of time studying.
We do events with fraternities (TGs, block, pregames etc) and have formals and date parties just like any other sorority. We do sisterhood retreats, big little pairings, apparel, ritual, philanthropy events and everything else. I really like having sisters in my classes as study buddies, being able to ask older members what they think of a prof or getting super cheap handmedown textbooks from them.
If you are curious about them then I would say it’ wouldn’t hurt to go to some of the Phi Rho recruitment events and get a feeling for it. If you want to talk to someone who knows more our recruitment chair is really nice so you could email her or message our social media accounts and someone can put you in touch with her.
Good luck going through recruitment and I hope you find your fit wherever it may be! :)
