sorority fall informal
by: cbus girlAlright, I have to ask...I've seen others posts about it, but none of them really answered my questions. Which sororities are participating in informal recruitment this autumn? I did some research and saw that only a few held open events in 2012. Do all chapters participate in formal, but not openly? ...or is it just that quota had already been filled for most chapters? Also, as an upperclassmen, is it even worth going through formal? I understand that OSU's greek system is huge, but is being an upperclassman the kiss of death (like at SEC schools)? Thanks in advance for the advice :)

So far, none of the houses know yet if they're doing informal recruitment in the fall. I'm sorry, but it'll be another month before that info gets out. Not all chapters participate in informal (fall), but all houses recruit during formal (in January). A lot of sophomores (and some juniors) go through informal recruitment, especially if they've already done their research and kind of know what houses they like. It's rare for a house to take a senior, but your chances would be a little better during the fall. If you're a junior who's planning to stay for a 5th year, you stand a good chance at getting a bid somewhere!

There will not be a definitive list of chapters participating in Informal Recruitment 2013, but I believe that it will be more than the Autumn 2012 season. Chapters have an idea, based on pledge class size and the number of seniors who graduated between Spring and Summer. However, with potential affiliations, deactivation, or transfers, nothing is for sure.
I would totally recommend going through recruitment as a junior (whether or not you're taking a 5th year doesn't matter to a lot of chapters in fall recruitment). I know a couple great girls who went through informal as juniors and went on to be Bigs and great members of the PHA community :)
It is totally worth it, and you should definitely give it a shot! Best of Luck!

If I had to guess (based in numbers and graduating seniors and because nothing is 100% sure until Welcome Week), I'd say chapters who might recruit during Fall 2013 are Chi Omega, Alpha Xi Delta, Kappa Delta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Epsilon Phi, and maybe Kappa Alpha Theta and Alpha Chi Omega.
