a lot of sororitys actually do have live in requirements. Despite that, it will sometimes depend how many girls want to live in the house. If more girls want to live in than can, not all will have to live in. Definitely ask any sorority you are interested in if they have a live-in requirement and they should give you an honest answer. If you don't live in at the time you study abroad, you may just have to live in the following year or something. Ask actives about their policies for more specific info!
