Only sororities that are under quota are allowed to do informal rush. This means probably only the bad/worse sororities are allowed to rush. So it would be easy to get a bid, but it would be for a bad sorority. I'm not a girl so idek if they are doing informal next year since we are getting a nw sorority. Just wait until the spring.

hi from a girl's point of view he explained it well in some ways, only thing he has wrong is that its just the bad ones, DG and Theta just recruited last year during informal (top tier), TriD and AGD (mid tier) and then AOPi (bottom) did as well, so its not all the bottom ones, only the middle, or only the top. I went through formal because I really wanted to see them all, but you also get a better look at the few you would see during informal because its more personal a laid back, plus youre spoiled rotten if youre a fall girl because there are less people in your pledge class. It really depends on what your looking for in a sorority

do not listen that only the bad sororities do informal!!! this is not true. The year I went through Theta, DG, Kappa, KD, Pi Phi, and Alpha Phi all did informal, and these are the six best sororities on campus! The difference is that these sororities usually only need about five girls, while the lower tier sororities like DZ, AOPi, or AEPhi need like 15. I would recommend informal.

Fall informal recruitment is for sophomores and up. While I was there (graduated in 2012, so it might have changed somewhat with semesters), ALL the sororities took part in Fall recruitment, as there are a lot of great sophomores out there. OSU is not one of those schools where you have to join freshman year. It does help, though. That being said, sororities can set their own numbers as to how many/who they offer during Fall, so it can be quite competitive. Some might take 3, some might take 15, for example. Many sophomores choose to go through Formal Recruitment in January because they want to see all the houses, go through the process, and be part of a more structured pledge class, IMO. There used to be a later spring informal recruitment for houses that still had space after Formal recruitment, but since it was so successful this past year, I don't know if anyone/who participated.

I'm transferring in this fall as well, and I spoke with someone in the Greek life office. We can't rush until spring because you need at least 12 semester credit hours and a certain gpa (which I can't remember)...because all transfer students start fresh with their gpa, we have to wait

Transfers-don't worry about rushing during Spring Formal Recruitment, historically there have always been a bunch of sophomores who choose to going through rush then versus Fall.

I'm a sophomore here at OSU and recently decided I wanted to join a sorority. Would informal rush during my junior year be beneficial?

Some of the lower tier chapters might be interested but any Upper and Mid Tier doing informal probably won't be. Recruitment is becoming more competitive and chapters are getting more choosy.

I went through informal mainly because I'm a pretty laid back person and didn't think I would enjoy how crazy and stressful formal is. The sorority I joined had actually just gotten a really good class during formal and so our informal class was an afterthought. The girls didn't really pay much attention to us, a lot of the girls never even introduced themselves to me, meetings were cancelled all the time, and I definitely never felt like I had joined a sisterhood. I'm sure that's partially a testament to the house I joined, but I really wish I would have gone through formal. I only looked at a couple houses, and I think going through formal I would have seen more and found one that I fit in better with. Just from my personal experience-I think it's worth it to wait. But then I also know people who have had a great experience through informal.
