pref to bid day

by: Ex-PNM

I got the call this morning that I would not be getting a bid tonight after only ranking 2 of the 3 houses I preffed, I understood the consequences of doing this and I stand by my decision to not rank the last house as I felt very uncomfortable. Anyway I was wondering if there is any insight actives could give about why girls are cut after pref, every house I ranked gushed about me, talked about me being there, said I would be a great fit explicitly. I don't think it was my grades because my GPA is over a 3.9, and I am feeling a little confused. I know the chapters don't owe me anything and I would appreciate if anyone who has been through something similar could give advice. I'm already signed up for a kappa event and am hoping it goes well!

You didn't get cut. You showed up on those chapters' bid lists below the point where they made quota (if quota is 60 and numbers 1-60 on the chapter's bid list all put that chapter as #1, they would make quota and if you were #61 you would not get a bid). Since you did not maximize your options (which is your right), you were not eligible to be a quota addition and therefore got a call that you will not receive a bid.
It's not that they didn't like you - they simply liked other girls more...

so help us understand if she did put all 3 houses on her bid card could she be eligile for quota addition and could that have possible placed her in one of her top two choices???

She would have ended up with a bid, either to her third choice house or to one of her top 2 choices as a quota addition. Since she didn't do that, she's eligible for a snap bid or to go through recruitment with Kappa or any chapter doing informal. It's all about hedging your bets.

She could have been a quota addition to her top two or gotten her third choice. That is why tell you it is risky to suicide.

But PNMs don't understand is that you are most likely to get a bid from your top house by maximizing your options. By leaving that last house off. You made yourself ineligible to be a quota addition to your top house which is actually the most common place that people get added to

I appreciate the insight everyone has given, I wish that my rho gams would have been more transparent about the topic but I still understand the risks involved either way.
