dropped

by: ex-pnm

I dropped from formal recruitment after pref round. I just didn't see myself in any of the sororities that I had left (they were all great, just not for me). I was really disheartened on sisterhood round when I saw that I had been dropped by my top 5 sororities (making it 9 in total that I had been dropped by that I really liked). I think the word that best described me at that point was "devastated." I really wanted to be in a sorority, and now I am not. Should I re-rush as a sophomore? Is it harder for sophomores to get bids/does it make the process even more miserable? Is it even worth it to go through recruitment again? Saturday was one of the worst days of my life, and I am feeling very bitter toward greek life/recruitment in general at the moment. Should I consider Kappa?

If you have a good gpa it’s not harder as a sophomore at all! I actually think sophomores sometimes do better bc they’re a bit more confident. Talk to your rho gams about KKG and go to some of their events later this week and see how you feel.

You shouldn't have dropped. You say 9 sororities dropped you which means you were still in the running for, like 12 or 13? Dumb.

Check Kappa or go informal but otherwise get over yourself. No sympathy for you.

I had 5 to choose from. You should check yourself and your facts.

These are the “entitled PNMs” or “too good” PNMs actives talk about. You don’t realize where you’ll fit until you’re there realistically. People overdramatize the “walking in and knowing immediately” thing so girls drop when they shouldn’t have because they didn’t have that moment of aw people describe.

Try Kappa. Try associate chapters. If you do informal or formal, try to keep more of an open mind.

Not feeling comfortable at a sorority and dropping isn’t “entitled” or “too good.” It’s realistic. The whole point of recruitment is that it’s a “mutual” process. When you have to choose from your bottom sororities (for whatever reason they are your bottom) is just settling. You’re supposed to join a sorority bc you want to and think you’ll have fun, not because you have to

it's nice the process worked for us but having gone through it and seeing so many people go through it they often have a better understanding of things and know that if they were to go through recruitment again, there are a lot of things they wish they knew. For me, I wish I had a more open mind to houses, which is why it's so upsetting to see girls who have multiple chapters left who would love to have that pnm back but the pnm is just like screw off even though they saw something in them. It is just sad. But then to also see pnms saying things like they had no good options left is just so ignorant. all the houses are great and you can find your group no matter who you join. But pnms think they know 100% they will not like it without ever even giving them the chance :p i just wish pnms could see more of what greek life is actually like because recruitment is not a good representation at all. even worse than that, the pnms are on this site which is easily the worst representation of chapters and greek life in general :/ not saying all pnms who drop are dumb or anything of the sort. It is just all too often that girls drop because they were not open minded to the possibilities of loving their new sisters.

I rushed this year as a sophomore with a pretty good gpa, involved on campus, and I'm pretty good at talking to people. I had the exact same situation as you. My top house dropped me after sisterhood and the houses I had left I had repeatedly put at the bottom of my list and they kept coming back but I could not see myself in them at all so I dropped from recruitment. I have friends who rushed as a sophomore and didn't have issues but in my opinion, it's a little harder as a sophomore. sorry this happened to you:( good luck with whatever you decide to do :)
