So I’m an Agricultural Engineering major & im going through formal recruitment. That being said, not only so I have the chapters we see to consider, but also Alpha Sigma Upsilon and Phi Sigma Rho.

I’m super social, but also school is obviously important. I want a chapter that is involved and social and sisterly, but also like the idea of chapters with girls all in similar fields because they’ll understand more of my passions and interests.

What’s everyone’s opinions on those two major sorority versus the ones we see in recruitment? Are they even worth looking at or are they just more like professional orgs? Are they social? Will I have fun or will they just be boring? I don’t want to rule them out but I wanted feedback on what they’re actually like because they haven’t seemed to be talked about on here

I would say check both of them out for yourself on top of formal. It’s about finding YOUR fit. Just remember you can’t accept a bid from more than one.

That being said I will said Phi Rho is decently involved in the Greek community. They do socials, they made a team for our philanthropy event, they had block. They seem to be pretty involved and a decent size.

I don’t hear much from ASU at all. I think they tend to lean toward hanging with the other (non-PHA) Ag sorority and the Ag fraternities. I don’t know if they have a house or anything, but I know they’re definitely small. They’re a local chapter from my understanding. (Small and local may be good or bad depending on what you want).

^^^it may take a lot of time and effort, but you should attend phi sigma rho and asu's informal recruitment events along with formal recruitment. Interacting with the women in each sorority and asking them questions will be the best way for you to decide. Phi sigma rho and ASU are smaller than the big PHA sororities. I'm not sure how many people are in ASU, but phi sigma rho is about half the size of other sororities, maybe 100 women? That could be a pro or con for you.

Phi rho and ASU are smaller, newer, and cost less than the other sororities. I do not know how much establishment (both locally and nationally) and cost matter to you, but this is something you can consider. The big sororities have more chapters across the nation with more alumni, providing a bigger network. Phi rho and ASU cost (I think, all this info is in the PHA lookbook) roughly a couple or a few hundred dollars a semester which is less than most sororities. Someone mentioned that ASU is only local; I don't know if this is true but it's something you can ask at their rush events. Phi rho is nationally established with chapters across the country, but like I said, there are less phi rho chapters than other sororities'. Good luck, I hope you figure out which chapter you feel you'd fit in most. I encourage you to attend ASU and phi rho rush, continue through with formal, and ask the PHA women lots of questions as your chapter will be your home for the rest of college.

Phi Rho has been in the Union during recruitment so I would say just stop by if you want to learn about them. They can probably answer questions you have
