sororities for stem
by: Engineer
I’m going through formal recruitment and was wondering what chapters have a lot of STEM girls. I’m really social and want girls to be social and have fun with, but I’m also in chemical engineering and want girls I may have classes with. Plus I’ve seen posts on here about chapters not Understanding engineering classes or the work load so I’m worried.
What sororities have a decent amount of girls in engineering (or STEM) or maybe what are some suggestions people have? Is rushing a bad idea for me?

Unsure if you know this already, but Phi Sigma Rho only takes STEM majors (they have mostly engineers and then a few others, not exactly sure on the specifics). Some women like being surrounded by those with similar majors and similar challenges, while other don't want that and choose a different sorority. They'll tell you during recruitment how Phi Sigma Rho works, but they do some social stuff - just not as much as the other sororities.
Otherwise, every chapter has a handful of STEM majors. Those towards the bottom end of the GPA rankings tend to have more for obvious reasons. But that's something you can ask during recruitment. It shouldn't bar you from rushing at all. Just know you won't have the same social life as some of the other girls in your chapter. (unless you're the girl that gets 4.0s and goes out twice a week - in which case more power to you) My point is it's up to you how much time you spend studying and how much time you spend socializing.

I heard about Phi Sigma Rho because my sister told me they exist at her school. She said the one at her school is really weird though. Is that true here? I really want a normal sorority vibe because I’m a normal, social person. I don’t want one of the sororities here that’s very superficial, but also not one that is just lame or doesn’t have a social aspect . Idk. Will I see their house during recruitment?

Of the few I know personally, and the ones I see around campus, yes I would say they're normal. They tend to have a good image, if that's what you're asking. Like cute apparel and not socially awkward. The main thing is that because they're smaller, they do less social events, have less money to work with, and don't have as large a network across the country. Depends what you're looking for.
I think they give you guys a chance to meet them during formal recruitment, so it's worth a shot to at least check them out. Otherwise, there are STEM majors in every sorority, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Chances are you'll get matched with them in later rounds anyways so you can ask them about this stuff then too. And rho gams are always a good resource.
