kappa vibes
by: KKGHey PNMs, with recruitment not too far away what’s your take on Kappa Kappa Gamma? Anyone interested? Is their former image influencing you either positively or negatively?

I'm probably going to rush in January and i've heard about the kappa thing and all the stories (my older sister just graduated and was in the greek system here). i"m going to look at the established houses first and have my eye on my sister's chapter so probably not really thinking about a startup but I'm open minded. just not sure if i want to potentially waste a few years building something up rather than just get into a group that's already got the frat relationships, the philanthropy, a house, etc.

I'm really excited to be in a sorority, and I'm really hoping for the traditional sorority experience. I think it would be fun to be a Kappa because it's so big nationally, but I wouldn't want to spend all of that time building it up. I want to join a sorority and have tons of sisters waiting for me when I run up to the house for the first time.

I'm not a pnm (currently in a sorority at OSU), but the kkg recruitment person (not sure what she's officially called) came to my sorority's chapter and seems to want to make kappa really strong next semester. I don't think previous issues will arise again since literally everyone that was in kappa when they got kicked is gone. The recruitment lady seemed down to earth and like she has a good vision for the chapter and I would encourage pnms to just keep an open mind. They're looking to recruit 200 girls just this spring, so if they're successful kkg will be the size of the other sororities in no time. Also if pnms don't know, kappa will participate in formal for the first week then drop, then do their own recruitment after formal is over.

my neighbor, beth burkes, is the director for the kappa foundations, and she's shared pretty honestly with my mom that nationals does not want the chapter to be top tier again. From national's standpoint 175 average girls pay the same dues that 175 top tier ones do and get in less trouble, plus they'd probably help push the old alums away. They aren't going to let any OSU grads become advisors, and nationals is purposefully recruiting nice quality girls but not hot ones, to avoid becoming the old chapter.
if you're looking for a good chapter to join, i think the kappas are working very hard to make sure it will be a safe abd supportive sisterhood. I'd take a look at them if you're truly not pleased with any of your options, and if you're compitted to helping rebuild.

This is not similar to ZTA colonizing. Kappa has beautiful house, expanded and updated, first sorority at Ohio State, large OSU alum support, and top on campus for over 100 years. This is not a typical startup. The new members already have a strong infrastructure and support to excel in every way.

I notice that Kappa is using some pretty average-looking girls on their OSU insta and at their coffee events. That kind of proves the point about them not wanting to be top tier again. if they did, they'd be using hotter girls - like Zeta did when they came here. So I guess it's true they're going for "good enough" and low key rather than top tier and troublesome.

So they are in the first round, and then that's it til after formal is done? is it just some sort of presentation about how great they are nationally by their national people?
