What is the deal with Phi Sigma Rho? Does anyone know anything about them? I got cut from formal but really like Greek life and I'm an engineer but are they like a normal sorority? Does anyone hang with them?

They are not a social chapter, they are an engineering one, but that doesn't mean they do not do social events. This is not really the site to ask people about them because most people on this sorority are ifc and pha. So sororites here probably don't do many events with them or anything, but if you are interested in an engineering related group of girls, i would check them out, get to know some of their members. Their time commitment is probably much less than a pha sorority, but they don't really party with most of the greek groups using this site. If you were cut from formal I would still highly recommend doing informal for pha. There are still a few events going on this week, and you really have nothin to lose. It's so much more chill than formal, you just kind of show up and get to know a few people and can leave whenever you want. That is if you're still willing to commit to a pha chapter. You can still find your home in pha, it's never too late. And if things don't work out (as informal can soemtims be competitive) u can always try for phi sig rho, I'm sure they would be happy to have you as well as the chapters doing informal this week. I would check out DZ and AOPI if you are worried about getting cut again, your chances of getting a bid from these are most likely higher (this is an estimate so i could be wrong) because some of the other houses informally recruiting are very very competitive and you probably need to know girls in the house to get in. Hope this helped

Actually, Phi Sigma Rho is a social sorority and is part of PHA . They just don't do formal recruitment because of the major requirement.

No, they are an affiliate. It is different; read the PHA bylaws.

That said, they are a "social" organization. They have formals, have meetings, TGs,officers, etc. They do Greek Week and Homecoming.

They don't do formal recruitment and they are not nearly as big as the NPC chapters. They are also don't have the alumnae base around the country to support them.

I believe you technically can become a member of this chapter and an NPC chapter since NPC rules only prohibit you from joining another NPC chapter.

^^^ To the person above me, I'm in Phi Rho. We do everything that all PHA chapters do except formal recruitment because of our major requirement. We have tons of chapters across the country & probably have more networking because we're all in the same major. Literally, the only thing we don't do is formal in the spring. We do informal at the same time. We're discussing being part of formal recruitment though.
You can't be a part of NPC & us. We are a Panhellenic sorority. That being said, we follow the same rules as you on that. We aren't nationally recognized because we exclude girls based on major. Almost every chapter of Phi Rho is part of PHA at their schools, and some even participate in formal recruitment.

We. Are. A. Panhellenic. Chapter. Stop saying anything different. We literally only differ by not doing formal recruitment so

No need to get all defensive. Phi Sigma Rho can pretend they're a relevant PHA sorority, but they're simply not. I'm an engineering major in a different PHA chapter, and honestly almost every girl I've met in Phi Sigma Rho has this inferiority complex about it. Join if you want a sisterhood of engineers, don't join it if you want any kind of increased social status.

Cut the girls some slack. Doesn't seem like they care about being relevant, just social. Honestly, I've met nothing but chill gets from it so props to them, but I can't say that I've ever done anything with their sorority . If you want a top tier house or name recognition, don't join them. If you want a good sisterhood & a group of like minded girls , I'd check them out

Chill. Like lol. We get it, you're a pha chapter no need to get so defensive. I would agree with others. They seem to be close and still do social things. Unfortunately a lot of chapters don't know much about them at all, but that's just because they haven't gotten to do things with them. I wouldn't call them irrelevant at all though, they are still very much a part of the community. They simply Just don't have the same presence as other chapters, but That's also due To their size (which has pros and cons) Just don't say they're not pha cuz evidently they'll get really salty haha.

Think about what you want out of greek life. Some of the pros of Phi Sigma Rho is that you will me a lot of girls in engineering and join their sisterhood. It will be a lot less of a time commitment, so you will have more time to work on schoolwork. Some of the cons are that it's not a large sorority nationally, so you won't get that "international sisterhood" that can help you out in the future in terms of networking. Since it's much less of a time commitment, well, it means you won't spend as much time doing sorority things. That includes engaging with other chapters in the greek community, having good turnout from your chapter for events, and overall just not making sorority life as much of a priority. It all depends on what's important to you.

I'm in Tri Delt & we had an event with them last semester. They are a PHA sorority & they're super nice. They're smaller, but it was a lot of fun. I thought the girls seemed like normal sorority girls, so idk. Just think they don't get invited a lot to places because people don't realize they're part of PHA.

I was on PHA council previously and have a best friend who was a Phi Rho. I can comfirm Phi Rho is a PHA sorority. However, they're considered an "associate chapter" for the sole reason that they can't be granted full membership because they technically discriminate by major. That being said, they do have social events, blocks, formats, etc. like all other social Greek organizations. They do not do formal recruitment because we're unable to force thousands of girls to talk to them when only a handful are in eligiable majors. I believe they've finished recruitment this semester based on seeing bid day pictures, however, if you are interested definitely reach out. If my friend is a good representation of the chapter as a whole, they're a really great, fun group of girls.

Also, they participate in Greek week. I remember seeing them there before, either last year or the year before.

I lived with a few phi rhos and went out with a lot of them pretty regularly. There's definitely a divide of people so you have some who want to go out/party/plan events, and some who want a movie night in. They do football block, they have TGs, they have date parties and formals. The biggest difference between them and other PHA sororities is the size, which might not even be a bad thing. It's a rest mix of really nice girls and I would recommend going to some of their recruitment events and giving them a chance.
