if you sign a bid agreement today AND maximize your options, you don't have to worry about snap bids. Those are for girls who drop out of recruitment, are dropped from all houses, or do not maximize options. Only sororities who did not reach quota can give snap bids. But they will contact you if they want to extend one so don't worry about it.

So I ended up dropping out of recruitment today, does that mean I'm eligible for a snap bid? Will sororities even think of me if I didn't go through pref round?

Yes, possibly. There is a list of women who dropped out. If any sororities liked you and have some extra spots after bids are handed, they may contact you.

That being said, I do not know your reasons for dropping out. If you dropped out because you didn't like the options you had left, then you may not have much luck. It is highly doubtful your top choice will give you a snap bid after dropping you.

I believe all potential snap bids are contacted on bid day, so after that, I think you're out of luck.

Not all snap bids are on or after bid day. I received a snap bid last year over a week after.

I think it is very unlikely any sorority will be giving out snap bids this year, given how many girls signed up for recruitment - pledge classes are going to be very large.

But we started out with 1300 girls and today they said a little less than 1100 remain so I feel like the pledge classes might be smaller than you think. Plus the pledge classes last year were huge and I know AGD and DZ did snap bids.

So pledge class size doesn't really have anything to do with snap bids. Quota = # of girls who sign bid agreement cards / # of houses. Because some girls "suicide" - aka don't list all houses they were invited to for pref round - some houses do not reach quota. Additionally, because maximizing your options means you are guaranteed a bid, there is something called quota plus - where some houses get above quota because they were in a lot of women's final 3 houses. Quota plus is complicated but what it means is that again, not every house will reach quota because of how the math works.

Any house who didn't reach quota is eligible for snap bidding. It's true that numbers are limited, but pledge class sizes could be 100 and snap bids would still be a thing. In fact, the larger the number of people going through recruitment, the more snap bids there will be because a lot of people suicide houses. (which you SHOULD NOT DO).

They've started--my friend just got offered a bid from AGD after dropping before preference round.

Snap bids are offered between bid matching and the start of bid day. Only chapters that do not make quota may give out snap bids. Any bids that are given out now are considered bids during informal recruitment for chapters not at total.

Not entirely correct.
There were a few chapters that were under total going into recruitment because of fall graduations or girls deactivating. So, a chapter might have made quota but is still eligible to offer bids to get them up to total.
I only know of a couple of chapters who were in this situation and they are both good chapters. I'm pretty sure they had a list of girls who they were calling.

The first response was correct. Any chapters giving out bids now is informally recruiting, not snap bidding. All chapters end up below total sometimes - and all chapters at OSU are "good".
Definition from sororitylife(dot)com website
Snap bidding: An option available to chapters that did not fill quota. Chapters may offer bids to potential new members whose preferences were not matched, meaning they would not be extended a bid by chapters they listed on their preference rankings after preference round. This process takes place before bids are distributed, and a potential new member would receive a phone call or other contact by a sorority offering her a snap bid. If she chooses to accept, the new member would participate in normal Bid Day activities.
