greek life and engineering?
by: CluelessIs it hard to balance a hard major and Greek life? Is engineering a common major in Greek life- for guys and/or girls? thanks

There are not a ton of engineers in Greek life. I was intimidated by this when I rushed but its simply because engineers don't make up a huge percentage of the student body (especially girls) and most engineers are not exactly the type of person who would want to be in Greek life (nerdy/antisocial/etc). However this is not true for some of us and I would highly recommend Greek life if it is something you want to do. It does take up alot of time and you probably will not be able to be involved with anything else but there is nothing wrong with that. (This is interchangeable for any difficult major)

I'm a senior engineer in a PHA chapter. Personally I think being in a sorority sets a higher standard for my grades and also adds more pressure. You surround yourself with girls making >3.5s while plenty of engineers make <3.0s. It's good motivation as long as you can handle it imo. Phi Sigma Rho is good but they're not as involved in the Greek community.

Theta Tau & Triangle for frats , or Phi Sigma Rho for sorority. They're engineering based, and Phi Rho & Theta Tau have been growing. Theta Tau has smaller but really fun blocks.
Honestly, I joined a normal PHA sorority and kind of regret it. I thought about joining Phi Rho but I declined my bid. With my sorority now, I feel like I don't have a break to relax because it's school then sorority mandated things. There's not a ton of girls (in my chapter at least) in engineering, so they don't get why I get stressed, and no one at study tables is in my major, which sucks. Plus, my GPA is lower than my sisters and they don't cut me slack because of my harder classes.
If you want a normal chapter, it's do-able. But I really think the social engineering Greek chapters are the best fits. They're exactly like the other chapters with just more support & less time commitments. I know they do informal during formal rush so you can check them out during the weeks before/between rounds and see if you like it.

Going off this, Phi Rho has seemed more involved lately. My sorority had study tables with them & a movie night/pre-game at our house early this semesyer
