suicide bids
by: just wonderingHow does this work/is it bad? Can you only suicide bid for one house? Or can you do it for two houses? like say you pref at 3 houses but only feel like you'd fit in at 2 of them

do not suicide. DO NOT! maximize your options!!! suiciding is when you only put one house on your pref card which means you have a 33% chance of getting a bid. if you go to three houses on pref night (which means you are already on their bid list) that means that if you put all 3 houses u are guaranteed a bid. if you go to two houses on pref night and you maximize your options by putting two houses, you are guaranteed a bid!! always maximize!!

Deciding whether or not to maximize your options is a really serious decision that you will hear about at length from rho gammas. All I can say is talk to your rho gammas if you walk away from pref with any doubts about what to list on your card. There isn't a right answer. If you KNOW 100% ABSOLUTELY you won't accept a bid from a chapter then it's stupid to list them and take a spot from another girl. That being said, every chapter has something to offer you so I hope you have an open mind.
And no, under no situation are you EVER guaranteed a bid. (unless you're a legacy at pref night which is a whole separate discussion.) NEVER. EVER. The poster above is mistaken on that point. RFM is complicated, and yes quota additions are a thing, but as a PNM you don't need to worry about any of that. Just focus on enjoying your parties!

I suicide bid when I went through recruitment and it worked out for me. I think I got lucky. I would suggest putting down at least two houses, if not all three that you pref at. Give whatever house you end up in a chance, at least for bid day, and then you can decide if you want to stay after. The 6 or 7 girls you talked to during recruitment does not define the house. There are over 100 other members you still haven't met!

Nope. Houses don't ever see a PNM's bid card. PNMs rank their choices, chapters rank the girls that came to their parties. A computer does the matching then houses get a list and PNMs get their bids. That's all there is to it.
