rushing this year
by: okayi want to join a sorority that will give me the ideal experience. by that i mean has a focus on school but won't have an outrageous gpa requirement, goes out but doesn't only talk about what frats they party with, and where the girls are genuine and can have a conversation that requires intelligence. i actually care a lot about giving back to the community, but i just think rush might be too superficial for me to find a group that is really like what i want and not just putting up a front. any suggestions?

You could say this is the experience in every house considering every house has girls that go out, every house has a gpa requirement, and every house does philanthropy. Unfortunately, every house is pretty fake during recruitment but that's just the way it is. From what you described I would suggest an upper middle tier or lower middle tier house, since you seem like you want a little bit of a mixed bag house, so I would say: Chi O, Kappa, AXO, Tri Delt, or Kappa Delta.

As a sorority member you are not "given" an experience. You make your experience with sisters as a "house" at Oregon. Be a leader. Craft your experience to launch and be an inspiration:
Honestly question yourself:
What are the conditions of the house?
What is your financial obligation?
Have you made bonds with current members?
Do you care to participate in philanthropic activities?
Why do you really want to join?
How will you strengthen the house with your contribution?
Best you you in rush.

basically those are the average houses, chi o might be a little generous considering they put partying above most everything but they do have decent participation in other house's philanthropies. A Phi parties more than you seem to want, DG is stuck up so it won't be the genuine feeling you want, and Theta/G Phi don't party enough for you to get that experience.
comment above had it pretty dead on.
